i am taking an online anatomy and physiology course entitled "anatomy & physiology for the allied health care professional online" at ocean county college in toms river nj as a continuing education course before i jump into the deep end of the pool and take it for credit. it is the killer course for pre-nursing students and many do not make it into the program because of their poor grades in a&p.
it was suggested to me that i try this a&p "lite" course and then i would have a great background for taking the a&p i and a&pii for credit. this course does not have a lab but should give me a quick overview that i can build on.

i took ocean county colleges medical terminology i and ii through continuing education online and loved it. this is the snail approach but i hope to build up my confidence taking the easy courses online before i take the more difficult nursing pre-requisite courses. i am taking my other college credit pre-requisite nursing courses now so taking this a&p "lite" course will be a help for the next step.
i know i am taking baby steps but it is a while since i was in school. if i blow the course, it doesn't show on a transcript because it's continuing education not for credit. i would rather spend just a few extra bucks just so i can hit the ground running with a&p. has anyone started out this way? i love taking it because i work a full time job and could go to school two or three days a week at this point.

I did kind of the same thing, but on accident. At my community college I wasn't aware that there were two levels of a&p I & II (Fundamental A&P I/II and Human A&P I/II). My first semester, the lady automatically registered me for fundamental, assuming I wanted to stay at their nursing program. After taking both I & II, I found out that they were only applicable to that school and I had planned on transferring.
So the following year, I took Human A&P and the pervious classes did help a lot! I was surprised how much I remembered because I didn't exactly work hard in the first classes (ended up with 2 C's, a B, and 1 A). In the Human A&P it was much harder and instead of the computer simulated lab we had in the first one, we had an actual lab with dissections, etc. I ended up with A's in both lectures and both labs!
I think it's a good idea you're doing this, especially if you feel uncomfortable about taking the classes now. What hurt me was that the first classes I took were for credit and are forever on my transcript..the C's ruined my gpa and forced me to stay at my CC a semester longer.

I wish I would have thought of that! I took A&P before I had even taken intro to biology (not my smartest decision) and I really struggled with it. Sounds like you're starting the path very thoughtfully.

Tysontwins,
I am thinking of taking this course. I like the idea of taking A&P online through continuing ed first. Then I would be prepared for the "killer" for credit A&P.
Do you know the number to call to register for this course?
Thanks!

You have made a very wise decision.
Here is the number to call to register 732 255-0404. The course just started but they will admit students up to two weeks later due to the fact that it is an online course. Hope to see you there!
I just signed up!
I am going to take A&P in baby steps with this online course. It wasn't that expensive but it is worth the piece of mind! The course is perfect for me because I can do it anytime during the week.

i think it's a waste of time and money. a&pi is very basic. i took it after a 20+ year absence from school, with only high school biology under my belt, and got an 'a'.
you'll be fine!
