I was in Out Patient today and started IV's for the first time I started 5 on the first try. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
Sounds like you had fun. :) You know your really hooked when your out with the family and your checking out peoples arms and thinking I could get an 18 in that guys forearm from across the room.:rotfl:
Yeah, it got kinda bad when I was learning to cannulate veins. I noticed my husband looking at me "warmly" and realized he had apparently thought I was doing the same--but I was noticing his vessels and plotting!Sounds like you had fun. :) You know your really hooked when your out with the family and your checking out peoples arms and thinking I could get an 18 in that guys forearm from across the room.:rotfl:
aahhhhhhh... the joy of it ! Still one of my alltime favorite things to do !If they still had IV teams, I think that's where I'd like to be.
Good for you, RN1 ! :balloons:
I know what you mean. :) My husband thinks I'm sick because I enjoy that kind of stuff. Some people will never understand.

It's great to hear that someone's experience went well, because I'm scheduled to work with someone in the outpatient lab next week to learn this skill.
Way to go! I have not had the opportunity to do too many IV's. I mostly work in peds, and the parents are not too keen when they see that a newbie IV starter is coming at there kid with a needle! But we all have to learn at one time or another! I think this skill becomes easier with confidence. It sounds like you're on the right path!
