I want all your opinions after reading the post:

I graduated 12/2006 and I started working one of the local hospital as a GN, took boards failed, became a nurse tech then failed and now a CNA. I recently passed and i have not told my nurse manager.

I want to ask whether (any opnion) should I stay and work in a different floor OR go to another hospital?

I worry that the rumors that I taken boards so many times and the lack of confidence and respect i would and should get from nurses and CNA. I know I should not be worry about what people say about me but I dont want to be thinking about that when I am workign as RN.

In addition, I can feel some nurses and CNA looking down on me--she cant even pass boards--what wrong with her?

Then I start to think, every hospital has rotten apples as well. there is never a good place to work. so I might as well stay where I am at. There are RN out there that are really caring, supportive and loving to new graduates and there are ones that are just plain ******* and just want to eat their young nurses alive. I dont want that type of atmosphere.

so please give me your comments. i am so confused. I have apply other hosptial but they have not called me yet. its just been a little over 1 week.

Many great nurses didn't pass their boards the first, second, or even third time. I passed my second attempt. NCLEX-RN is a standardized minimum compentency test, that's sooo broad it's difficult to know everything on the test. Also, if you feel uncomfortable at your current job for whatever reasons, you have the option to test other waters. Maybe part of you is concerned that you won't be able to confidently act in that RN role after being knocked down in status, however that is not true. I was in the same boat as you. I went from GN to nurse extern and boy that wasn't fun. I felt soooo self-concious. Plus the women on that unit talk sooo much that my precious "secret" got around. Needless to say it was very nerve wrecking, to feel that any and everyone is talking about you. If you honestly feel that working on your unit is going to stiffle your growth, then by all means make a change to another unit or hospital.

It sounds as like you you are uncomfortable there anyway and it may be a time for change especially,If you feel that you will not be respected by coworkers at your current location then I suggest you start fresh. People love to talk and discuss other peoples business and tear down instead of buiding up.People are going to talk no matter what, be confident in yourself and your abilities. I did not get my temp when i finished school, but I had a job waiting on meI did not pass the 1st time, but passed 2nd time and that same supervisor offered me the job w/o hessitation. I took it!!

Best of luck with whatever that you decide to do. I am sure that you will make the correct decision that is for you.

I know exactly what you're talking about... some nurses feel better by gossiping and degrading others. It doesn't matter whether or not you passed your boards the first time... they'd find something else to chat about. Once miserable, they want to spread their toxins and make others feel bad. You will find this in some departments and others will be wonderful with cohesive teams.

If you honestly don't think you will be respected then move on. Lots of hospitals need nurses and you can make a fresh start. It's nobody's business how many times you took the boards. You passed and now you're a nurse. You can do this job!

Since you haven't heard from the other hospital it's possible something went screwy during the application process online. Take a day off, get dressed up, print up a few resumes, and hit every HR in every potential hospital with your license in hand. I guarantee you will have them drooling over you. They adore new nurses because they're fresh, willing to work, and they don't have to pay you more than the base salary. :D

My first job in nursing was so horrible that I drove home crying for a good 6 months because of the psycho nurses that I worked with. So I finally just drove to the nearest hospital to my house, applied in person, and by the next day interviewed and was offered a job. I haven't looked back once.

Best of luck to you.

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS ON PASSING THE NCLEX!!!

:anpom:

That happened to me as well. I graduated then our school required a HESI test before we could take boards. I took the HESI 3 times and still left about 10 out of 30 students STILL trying to get out of the HESI. The HESI people say if you make an 800 you can pass boards but my school said you had to make a 950...not 949 but 950. I took the boards and failed and then passed the second time. I was working on my unit for 2 years so everyone saw my struggles and it did effect my confidence and I did feel like people were judgemental. Long story short....hated it and am now looking for other employment.

I agree that some of the best nurses I know did not pass boards the first time. Now I will start somewhere new where I can be looked upon as a new nurse without all of the baggage. Just see how it goes and do what is best for you. I stayed on my unit for 6 weeks (orientation was also shabby) but I stayed 4 weeks too long. Time for me to move on. Good Luck!!

I agree that moving on to a different hospital would be the best for you -- you don't need others tearing down your confidence when you are just starting out as a nurse. Just another piece of advice -- don't share anything personal with your coworkers you want kept confidential -- be kind to your coworkers BUT keep your friends outside your place of work and you won't be the topic of gossip!
