I have been taking classes at a local community college for over a year after transferring from a four year school. To make a long story short, I made an 89.4 on my TEAS test and my lowest grade is a B+. The rest of my grades are all A's and I have only 4 credit hours to complete my general education courses for the nursing program (ASN) only because they were just added on over the summer. Well I went to an info session yesturday and it looks like I probably won't get a spot in the upcoming program . She expects about 100 applicants and 20 have already turned in their applications. They only look at 4 courses and your TEAS score. It just so happens that one of those courses is the one I made a B+ in. The 20 applicants who have turned in there applications have all A's in those four courses and high TEAS scores . They are only taking 25 spots. You can see why I am upset. I can't retake the class with the B+ without paying for it all out of pocket which I can do, but it is sad that I would have to do this. Everything is on a point scale here. Out of a possible 222 points, I have 199. I just wonder how people become nurses, maybe I should have went into pre-med . Someone please give me some sort of encouragement, because I am feeling very frustrated and down .

Pre-Med is no easier. I know at my University they weed people out that are pre-med by making Genetics and Chem classes extraordinarily difficult--and my school doesn't even have a medical school! Also, here at my school the Nursing School is one of the best in the state and they won't hardly consider students who did not attend my university as Freshman (ie no transfers).
My question for you is why do you want to get a BSN instead of an ADN? Why not get your ADN and have them pay for you RN-BS program or RN to MSN program? I even turned down the opportunity of an accelerated alternate-entry MSN program (because I'll have a bachelor's in History in May) in Nursing because it's getting to be too expensive.
In your position, firstly, I'd rather not have to repay to take a course that I may or may not get an A in. Secondly, even if you do get an A there is no gurantee that others won't be more qualified--all for basically the same pay as an ADN. Management doors probably won't open immediately anyways, so why not get an ADN and get a BSN (or an MSN!) while working??
I was joking about the pre-med. I know it is no easier, it just seems so hard to get accepted into nursing. I am trying for the ASN not the BSN, though eventually that is my goal. Like you mentioned, I would rather start working and have them pay for me to further my degree. I have all but 4 credit hours completed for the general education requirements for my schools' ASN program. I was accepted into their LPN program and turned it down after talking with the Human Resource Department at a local Magnet Status hospital as well as the college Dean of admissions (because he knew about some changes being made in the program). That is a long story though. I just don't understand how I can't get accepted into the ASN program when I have nearly all my general education completed and have all A's except for one B+. You are right about taking the class again, though I am positive I would make an A second time around. The last time I just had a terrible class. It was my psychology class (which I typically enjoy). This class was 90+ students and was more like the history of psychology...oh, and I don't like history. I found it to be so dry and I took it years ago along with 5 other classes all of which were difficult. Sorry to get off track...:selfbonk: . I am applying though it looks fairly grim. If I don't get into the program, I will be reapplying for the fall program of next year. I just hate taking time off and waiting without being able to take classes that apply to my degree. I already checked into taking classes that would apply towards my BSN once I complete my ASN and there are none that I can take prior to acceptance because they all fall under the Nursing core curriculum. Maybe I can take up knitting or something... .

Maybe you should look at other schools in your area. But around here the schools are full for 06 and some for 07 are full too. Good luck

Are you sure? Did you check with a RN-BSN counselor at the school(s) you wish to apply? Many programs require Stats, Soc, Nutrition, Pathophysiology and/or O-Chem, and what ever else as a pre-req.
I was not accepted for this Fall and I am waiting for this Spring. So I am working and taking one of my BSN pre-reqs and another course for my ADN to be part-time as I wait on acceptance. If I do not get into the ADN program for this Spring, then I will finish up my BSN pre-reqs. I already have two degrees so I have some of my pre-reqs out the way already. Good luck.

It is frustrating, but it happens a lot. I put myself under a lot of stress because I signed up for 20 hours and had to get a 4.0 to have a chance at getting into a program in my area. I would up doing it, but it was crazy stressful! Be sure to look at other programs and see if there are any others.

you never know what can happen. The wait to get in a program is 1 1/2 years to 2 1/2 years. The governor of California provided some extra funding for 12 spots this fall. I was one of the 12 selected for this program. I waited 6 months to get into the program instead of the usual long wait. Each school has different criteria to get in. Our school goes by GPA and this special program included NET score. Each pool is given a number based on GPA that is your number added to the previous pool of people and you basically take a number and wait until your number is called. Just depends on the school

JUST APPLY!!!!!!!!!!!! you will get in i never heard of anyone not being qualified with 1 B. Just because 20 people have all A's does not mean everyone else does. You do not have nothing to lose by applying and if you only have 1 B i bet you get in!!!!!!!!!!
:flowersfo I want to thank everyone who replied to my post and all of the encouragement. I admire everyone that makes it into a program. I realize more so now than ever that it really is tough to be a nurse (for that I am glad, or at least will be when I am sick). I will just keep trying until I get there. Perhaps I will go another route, though my first step is to apply against the odds.

I heard this once... If you Qualify.... APPLY!!!!!!
You never know, they may include information like (they already have received 20 applications) just to deter you! It's another example of them weeding out applicants.
Keep at it, I've been there! I still haven't been accepted, but I keep applying! One school even included with my regret letter, other available degrees that I could apply for with them...JERKS!
