I am seriously freaking out

with the idea of dissecting a pig I know it sounds silly but I really am I was just looking up the labpaqs online....I thought by taking BIO online I would some how be able to 'get out' of it and just be able to see slides or something. When I was looking at the contents it showed a pig in a vacuum sealed bag and I just about lost it:crying2:

I dont know what to do I am seriously scared and freaking out :bluecry1:

Hey ColoradoGirl;

Not to burst your bubble here, but I am wondering - how are you going to respond to seeing and touching cadavers, human waste, and nasty ailments that patients have? Slicing open pig heart and sheep brain is just the beginning! :chuckle

They are preserved, to me this is so much easier than what I suspect I will face as a nurse. No blood, no goo, no odor other than the preservative.....

I'm a biology teacher, you will get through this and be just fine. It's not nearly as bad as you think it will be and you will learn A LOT. If you think you can't handle it, take the class in person so you can find a lab partner that likes to cut- never been at a school that had enough funds to purchase preserved specimens for each student. Good luck!

Breathe! I agree...this is just the start. Do you normally get freaked out over blood? As a birth doula I've attended many births...and they are not exactly "clean." Lots of body fluids, blood, watching epidurals being administered, and I've attended c-sections in the OR, etc.... Thought it would bother me but as long as it's not mine or one of my kids I do fine. BUT there are many doulas who have a hard time with it.... it takes time. don't get discouraged...there are doctors who hit the floor too!

It is strange because blood and stuff doesnt bother me for some reason just the pig/cat dissection I know it sounds silly.

I have had been around dead bodies and was fine(well as fine as you can be I guess) I saw my 15 y/o sister after she had a autopsy and was about to be cremated. I have also seen my Grandmother who died at home & several other's working in home health/longterm care.

Stuff like that doesn't 'get to me' for some reason it is just the idea of slicing up this fetal pig/cat I dont know what it is. I also have a hard time touching raw meat too :( I dont know what it is

I just need to relax I probably will love it :lol2:

Relax, and breathe. Get someone who has done this before - a friend, or relative - to come sit with you while you do it.

Good luck.

I thought I would be upset about the cats and pig as well, but instead was surprised about the "fakeness" of it all. The cats and pigs are so well preserved that they're stiff and rubbery and not at all real-feelings. Dyes are injected to show off the blood vessels, and it's all around very Halloweenish.
