I am 21 and just starting the college process....I have always wanted to become a nurse it is a true passion of mine...but everyone that I know who is doing it was an honor student in high school and straight A students etc while I just did the bare minimum to graduate. I'm not very good at math but I never really studied it in high school. I'm sure if I really study in college I'll be just fine but right now I am second guessing myself. Any advice on ppl who struggled with math and still became RNs? Just need some encouraging words. Thanks

The math part of nursing is not hard. You just need to commit yourself to practicing a lot more than you would think you'd need to. Nothing about nursing is impossibly difficult. It just needs a lot of willingness and ability to work hard. Good luck!

Look, math was always a challenge for me. Hell, I dont know how I passed the graduation test! It took me literally 4 years (with time off of course) to get out of remedial math. Math had always intimidated me! This past semester I made a B in College Algebra!( which was very good for me) What I'm saying is, you can do anything you set your mind to! I refused to give up! Good luck on your endeavors

You can do anything you put your mind too! I did what I had to also to graduate high school. I started college later then my friends. College is different you have to put your mind to it and study. I struggled with math but got tutors. I want to be a nurse so bad so I worked my butt off. I finally made it though prerequisites and just applied to the RN program. But if it's what you really want you can do it.

Right there with you. To say that I stink at math is an understatement. To top it all off, I'm married to a physicist to whom math comes very easily. He can look at an algebraic equation and have the answer in his head within seconds...meanwhile, I'm sweating and writing it out for over 20 minutes. Anyway, I've been worried about the math, too. But it isn't stopping me. I want to be a nurse and that's that. I will just have to study extra hard

I have always been horrible at math. I was always all honors in high school except math. I didnt to go college right away and just started last year after 11 years after. I took my pert test scored low for math so I had to take remedial math class. I got a B. Then this semester I had college algebra and I was terrified but I ended up with a B. I had an A all course but I didnt do so good in final.
I took hesi and surprising my best subject was math. It is really basic compared to any college math. You can do it if I did it.

You have given me hope, thank you.
I requested my high school transcripts awhile back to apply to my state university. When they came, I had a good laugh. I had forgotten how good of a student I actually was - in everything except algebra. Advanced Placement English classes, History classes, Biology, United States Economics - all A's. I even got a B in Chemistry. Algebra? You don't want to know. To be fair (to myself), I did have an absolutely terrible algebra teacher who spent 2/3 of class time talking about the football team that he coached and didn't spend much time actually teaching us the material.
I'm hoping that I will have better luck with my college math courses. I start my first one in two weeks (summer semester.) We'll see.

Legit if you want it you can do it simple as that. You may bleed a bit more and sweat more, but you will be find. I failed College Algebra four time's the fifth time was able to get a 4.0.

Dude. I absolutely suck at math. I was in a remedial math for most of middle school, barely passed math in high school, and I had to take a remedial math course my freshman year of college before they would even let me take a basic 100 level math course. I just graduated from my BSN program with honors. Nursing math is nothing like college algebra. You don't need to know the pythagorean theorem, the quadratic formula, or the hypotenuse of a triangle to be a nurse. I got a 100 in the medication calculation math course that I needed for my ADN program. It's really just a lot of memorizing conversions and being able to apply it. Once you get the hang of it, it'll be a piece of cake.
