hello guys im am on my second semester of nursing and thiss is my first case study i have to do and i dont know hoe to start. can u guys help me pleaseeeee!!!!!!
mrs.dean is 55 years of ge and s female patient who is admitted for chemotherapy that is vesicant, and for transfusion of red blood cells and platelets. she had a right radical mastectomy two months ago. the oncologist orders NS at 20 ml per hour as a continous flush line for medications. the nurse needs to place two iv catheters for the patients treatment per order from the oncologist and needs to begin the iv therapy.
1-explain the rationale for the size of the two cannulas the nurse will insert and the location for the cannulas based upon the patients needs.
2- described measures the nurse should take to prevent potential complications of iv therapy.

First give us your thoughts and the rationale behind them. We cannot do your homework for you.

well i know she needs two cannulas one for the red blood cells and one for the chemotherapy. also the site should be deifferent so that is doesnt interfere with each other. th size of each cannula should be G20 or larger to prevent complications like an escape or infiltration to the tissues.
the measure all i can think of is reduce the flow to keep an open rate, raise head of the bed to facilitate breathing, we chech for vitals like respirations, pulse..

Where are your available sites for IV placement? Are there any contraindications for using one site or another, either with the site itself or with the blood/drug? What are your considerations in choosing the size of the IV? Once you've answered these questions, you be on your way.

she just had mastectomy on right. avoid that arm for sticks and bp's. place arm band with warning on rt arm
A mastectomy puts pt at risk for lymphedema in that arm. she is more at risk the more lymph nodes she had removed
