I am really bummed out...

I received my letter on Saturday. The school offered me a space on their waiting list for

Spring 05 admission. I don't know why I am so upset because I really didn't think I would

get in yet. I have a few more prereqs to complete. By the time classes would start, I would

only have to do micro but I figured I would knock that out in the summer. I guess I will have

to wait until Fall 05, but that means day classes/clinicals. Spring classes are in the evening.

I did see two Fall 04 students in the bookstore who decided to drop out after getting accepted into the nursing program. I don't want to wish ill on anyone, but it did give me hope that maybe there is still a chance for me.

I called the school today to find out if there was any chance of my getting into the school. She says there is always a chance that someone will change their minds or fail a class.

I asked her if she could tell me my number on the waiting list. Apparently, the school does

not do this. She said it doesn't really matter what number I am. I think that is unfair simply because the number really clarifies where you are in terms of getting in. If I were number

thirty on the waiting list, I would know that there is very little chance that I would be going in.

So, I would explore other options. Now, if I were number 2, there is a good chance that I

would get called up so I may decide to wait it out.

I know I have a few more prereqs to do so I really shouldn't be stressing. But, it really is

stressful wondering if someone decides to drop, will I be getting another letter.

Oh well, such is life....or nursing school.

Don't give up! I was told that there was no way I would get in this year, but I did! The lady I talked to in March told me to call once a month just to keep in contact. :) I called them to make sure I was on the list for '05, as part of that once a month call, and then asked if there would be a possibility of getting in this year. They had 2 positions just come open, and since I was on the phone with them, I got one of them! :) Keep calling! Let them know you are serious about this and that you want this more than the other students.

I would like to offer support and tell you to never give up. Our program does not have a waiting list, you are either in or you REAPPLY the following year. At least you know where you stand. As an LPN student (soon to be) may I offer a suggestion? Apply at your local vocational school for an LPN class. Some states offer two different start/end date like Fall/Spring starting. You can attend that class for a year, get licensed, and depending on your school may be able to transfer credits and bypass some ADN requirements and start or finish that program quicker. I know of two people here in New York who took that route as a back-up plan, and are very happy with their choice. You can also go the CNA class route, I believe it's 6-8 weeks, and you can make money in a healthcare setting and hone your skills while you wait. It's worth looking into.

Either way, I know everything will work out perfectly for you according to God's plan. :)

i too am on the waiting list for fall. without being a pest, i stay in touch and let the admissions know how interested i am and how i am progressing in my pre-reqs. keep your name in front of them in a positive manner.

my sister-in-law was on a waiting list. she completed all the paper work and held her breath. the day classes began she got a call to come to class! someone had changed their mind. she graduated and has been working now for 3 years. if she had not gotten in she was going to do rrt. now my friend is in the same boat. i really hope she gets in. i shared the above story with her and she too is holding her breath. waiting is terrible on the nerves but don't give up. you may get a call to join the class. good luck and keep your chin up.:)

Deb, I think that no matter how much we think we are ready to hear a bad outcome on something or even expect it, we are never really "ready" KWIM? We seem to think in the back of our minds that there is still that possiblity...ya know? I wish you the very best of luck and look at it this way...you'll get all those pre-req's out of the way (unlike me) and have an easier time of it when you do the nursing courses and clinicals!

I really needed to hear that this morning. I don't know why I can't look at this rationally.

I really believe it would be best to finish everything before I start my Nursing classes. I

told everyone I didn't expect to get in right now, and I thought I believed it. I think it would have almost been better if they just turned me down instead of the waiting list. Now, I am going to be on pins and needles until January. Everything is so uncertain when you don't know if you are going to get in or not.

Anyway, everyone thanks for the words of encouragement. I am preparing to send out

my applications for Fall 05 acceptance. Wish me luck!

I agree with you, I think it's awful that they don't give you a number too! A college I just applied with ranks all their alternates and lets you know where you stand. In addition, all alternates who are not admitted to fill spots are guaranteed a place in the next year's program. Is that the case with you? Are you guaranteed in at a later date? A friend of mine ranked 21 and knows she most likely won't get in this year but she's jazzed anyway because she plans to spend next year finishing up all her pre-reqs and the lower division requirements for the RN-BSN program she plans to apply to after getting her RN. But, because it's so competetive here to get into nursing school most people apply to more than one college at a time. I know of 4 people (myself included) in my BIOCHEM class alone who are turning down entry into our college's program of 72 and are taking positions elsewhere. So, hang in there and finish up those pre-req's. By having them done before you go into the core program you will have a MUCH easier time!

No, I am not guaranteed a position in the Fall 05 class. What I will have to do is apply for

admittance into the Fall 05 class, after November 1st. I will still be on the waiting list

for Spring 05 until January 05. It just seems kind of backwards to me.

I am a little down about nursing not only because of fear of not getting into nursing school but also because my friends keep thinking I'm going to be out of school in a year or so because I've already been in school several months doing prereqs!
