I"M SOOOOO TIRED OF NURSE RECRUITERS! (Rant)

Published

You see a new grad internship position or even a staff nurse position available. But NO! You can't send my resume directly to the nurse manager. You have to put in an application with HR. "Fill out an application online. It's good for 3 months. If we need you we'll call." ARRG!

Some secretary says, "Sure, you can fax HR a copy of your resume if you want." What's the point???.. I'm gonna fax it and will will make it's way right to the trash.

In one instance there was a new grad position that opened for 1 day. It closed the next morning. I saw it because I obsessively check the websites for jobs many times a day. About a week after I called to check the status. The secretary said, "Oh, they haven't review the application yet." That's ok! They are just taking their time. Meanwhile I called the nurse recruiter and left a message. Of course no returned call.

Well, almost 3-4 weeks of putting it in there, I called and told the secretary that I now have my license and if there was a way to amend my application. She actually checked and said " your application still wasnt accessed-- oh wait... the positions have already been filled a while back" WHAT? You mean they didn't even look at all the applicants??????

I have a somewhat impressive resume, I think. I believe that if I give my resume to a nurse manager, they would be interested. How am I supposed to get a job if they wont even look at it!!!????

Glad I got that out. :D

Question: In everyone's opinion, what should a man wear to meet with potential employers? button-up and slacks? Tie? suit? Tux? heh.
A suit is preferred, slacks with a tie are an alternative.

Wow. That's pretty discouraging.

I've been obsessively checking the boards myself and today I got quite a surprise. There were a lot more jobs for new grads. It may be a blip, or a light at the end of the tunnel. We shall see.

What "boards" are you all checking for jobs listings?

Simply Hired is a good one and Indeed.com

I must admit that I never though it would be like this. I live in the NY area, and the jobs are non-existant. I have contacted every facility in the NY metro area and havent heard a peep. Like many of you, I faxed over my resume and gave a follow up call only to hear that they havent been able to review my resume because no jobs are available "but maybe theyll pop up."

I'm soooo frustrated. I studied my butt off to get to this point and now I feel like I'm staring at a brick wall. It's the crasiest thing- I work for a doctor (as a nanny) and my mom is an RN...with all their connects I STILL can't land a position.

What to do? I've been asking myself over and over again. Now I've only been a truely LICENSED practical nurse for around 12 days now- but I've reallllyy been putting myself out there- spending like 4 hours a day with the phone calls, faxes, and online job sites..and nothing.

So tomorrow, my idea is to just knock on some doors with a big smile and my resume, license, references, ect. Maybe theyll see me as a human being rather than just a name in a pile? Or maybe I'll waste my time..who knows? What do you guys think? Should I go tomorrow (friday) or do you think its better to show up earlier in the week (say a tuesday)

Thanks to all you lovely nurses out there and best of luck to you all. "Que sera sera...."

I applied to an RN Residency online, was sent an application packet to fill out complete with 2 letters of recommendations... my teachers went to the trouble to write letters for me, I put the packet in the mail, and the NEXT day get an email saying I'm no longer under considerations. So I and my teachers went to all that trouble and they didn't even open the packet. GRRRR

That is SO discouraging! I sometimes look at job postings and think to myself "what's the point?" I hate that I am thinking that but its hard when you can't even get your resume looked at, and here I thought getting an interview would be the hard part!

www.jobster.com is a great place to look as well. I graduated last year in August and used this website to find a job. If I found a position that I was interested in I would look at the hospital website to make sure it was still posted. You can look by state or nationwide. I got several interviews and a job. I live in Texas and I think the market for new grads is better here than in many states.

I wish you all the best of luck. Hang in there!
