Well, my days as a home care nurse have come to an end.
I turned in my resignation today and will be going back to LTC as the DNS.
Good luck to all you nurses who stick it out despite heavy patient loads, hours of charting, nasty little dogs, bad directions......

DNS in LTC?!! What did you do to yourself? Sorry it didn't work out. Good luck and my prayers go out to you! (Seriously!)
I've been a DNS before and that is where my strengths are. This facility is trying to improve the skills of the nurses so they can accept more rehab patients. It is going to be exciting and satisfying to help make this happen. Plus the salary and the perks are worth it.

I'm sorry that you are unhappy in your current job but also glad that you have something else that you find rewarding to do. Take care.

Yeah for the long term care industry - they got another good one back.
(But admittedly I am over in this forum "snooping" because I was out just yesterday putting in applications for home health myself).

HH can be very bad or it can be very good. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. I loved it until we went per visit. I still miss the visits. Congratulations and good luck on your new job.

I like the part about nasty little dogs. I'm thinking more like "nasty little nurse managers that forget what it's like to work in the field". They can't help you with any of your piles of paperwork or anything else because they barely have time for lunch. So far I have YET to see them miss ONE lunch break OR be late for one. Also yet to see one take less than one full hour.
