Hi everyone,
My friends and family think I'm crazy for quitting my job during a recession. I had the regular 9-5 job where I stared at the computer all day. I couldn't believe that dealing with redundant paperwork and running boring reports would be required of me for the rest of my life. After 3 1/2 years of doing this, I couldn't take it anymore!! So I quit! I gained 35 pounds in three years because of this job. I saw the drive and compassion in my coworkers and I just couldn't relate. I don't know about anyone else, but I want a job where I feel fulfilled at the end of the day. I figured healthcare would be a good option because you're not staring at a computer all day and you're actually ACTIVE. I figured the CNA training would be beneficial towards my future because I'm interested in the healthcare field. Does anyone else have a story similar to mine?
it is so amazing how many of us are in the same boat or feel the same way.
i start cna school tomorrow, i am pretty excited, just trying to get all my paperwork in by the deadline for the lpn class.. i have felt so worthless in my job as an admin and knew it was just a fill in. my husband has a 2yr and is now almost done with his 4yr - taking online classes at spc. one day he said to me.. "so, what are you going to do for the rest of your life".. wow - that stopped me dead in my tracks. i am so thankful to have this opportunity handed to me and i guess getting laid off was not the end of the world.. seems to be the beginning!! :)
please let me know what you all decide to do, i will let ya'll know how the first day was...
Wow! I am so happy to read your post. I too thought that I was the only one that would give up my good paying job to do CNA then RN. Most of my family also think I am crazy but for years I have been wanting to get into health care and thought I was too stupid to do it. We just relocated to a new area as my husband just got out for the military and now that he is getting settled in his new job, it is MY TURN! I am too sick of sitting on my butt all day doing the same thing over and over again. I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted!
i sure hope you proceed with cna school.. granted today was the first day of school, but i loved it!! i know i am going to love it.. it was so interesting, i think it will make you feel like you actually made a difference in someones life at the end of the day.. you can do it!!! get a good study guide, take good notes, you will be great!
Please lets keep each other posted on the progress of our career change. It will be a great way to know if we made a good choice- if you will.
Two weeks ago, I past my state CNA exam. I haven't really had the time to apply to CNA positions because I'm taking physiology and chemistry, and boy! They're keeping me busy.
Hi All,
I am so excited. I signed up today for my CNA class and it starts January 4. If anyone in Texas is interested, I am going to Elite Nurse Aide Academy in Hurst, TX. They are the nicest people ever, affordable and the top ranked CNA school in Texas. I will keep you updated .....

The leap is definitely worth it. I made my lifestyle changes in class so when I took the job I did my family would be able to do so. Make sure you have a good support system. My boyfriend and me set up a schedule where he can watch my son when I'm working the doubles on the weekends, and he's even taken up a second job during the week to help with christmas this year since I won't be making as much.
Also if CNA is just the beginning and you want to be an LVN, or RN think of all the experience you will gain from this! I wish you the best of luck, and keep us updated on what you decide to do :)
Gsmama,
I think two days is way too early to tell if your good for it or not... Just keep working at it, and you will hopefully fall into a groove :) I hope you have good support at your new job, and if not I would take advantage of this website, your notes from class, and any outside help you can. Just my 2 cents but there was a reason why you decided to take the path you did and I hope you don't talk yourself out of it this early in the game.

Well I finished my CNA class about 8 months ago and it did usher me into the health care field. It was tough in the beginning because I couldn't find a job so I just kept applying and applying to any and every job. The best advice I can give is find an evening CNA class. Keep your job until you find a job in health care. I really like my job now. I'm making less money than I did at my other job, but I'd rather help an elderly person sing happy birthday than run excel reports and stare at a computer all day.
