i went tuesday and got my school schedule and i've got a question about one of the classes they put me in.they recommended that i take both the pre-requiste classes for the lpn and rn program at the same time.but the pre-requiste classes were full. so they tried placing me in some other classes but either they were full or the opening they had for it i didn't want.they ended up placing me in introduction to computers. i've read the description of the class and i don't see how its going to help me with nursing. so i was wondering if any of you are having to take this class or would see how it would help?
oh and also i was wondering should i keep the class or drop it and see about replacing it? i want to replace it. i was recommended to take a math class. i think the math class would help me more and be better then the computer class. what do you think?

Is Intro to Computers required for your degree? If so, you will need it anyway so why not take it now. And you would be surprised how computer knowledge can come in very handy.

You might check and see if the computer class is required for your degree or even to get onto a waiting list. At my previous school, they would not let us get on the waiting list without having completed an intro computers class.

I agree with the others that you should check on the pre-reqs. I know at some schools an intro to computers class is required for the degree, in which case you might as well get it out of the way. But a math class would also be helpful (if not required). Would you be able to take both?

Maybe they looked at the math classes but they are full? Just see what you need for your degree and try to take something that applies. Good luck!
no the intro to computers is not one of my pre-req classes. they recommended that i take both the pre-requiste classes for both the lpn and rn. but what pre-req classes for the rn that they tried to place me in were full.they tried to place me in a biology class but it was full i think. then they tried a medical terminology class but it too was full. and as far as the math class it wasn't full it was that one opening was a lab class and the other math class openings were at a time that i didn't want. its just that i read the description of the computer class and didn't see how it would help. but since then i've been thinking and maybe it might be helpful. i was just thinking that i might be better off with that math class or a class that was more directed towards nursing. oh and when they were scheduling my classes and having trouble placing me they came up with the idea of the computer class and said this might help or something like that.:)

i posted on your thread in the illinois forum. i would keep the computer class it is required at a lot of school plus it will help you in the long run.
i am curious about the classes being at times that you don't want. are they too early or late or do you have obligations that prevent you from taking classes before or past a certain time? i know that i have to schedule my classes when my daughter's will be at school.
the computer class may not be a pre-req but it may be a co-req. i took all of my pre and co-reqs before starting the program and it has made it much easier. didn't they give you a list of the classes required for the adn and lpn programs?

I believe introduction of computers is a requirement for all degree programs. Now, with new technologies, it is important to know how to use computers. You will also be using computers, even in clinicals, so I would think it is a requirement.
yeah they told me what classes were required for the lpn and adn programs and the computer class wasn't one of them. and as far as the times for the classes i didn't want morning classes cause i'm not much of a morning person. plus having them in the afternoon would make it easier for me to get there on time. and the classes of the evening i didn't want them because of them being late ones and cause of winter weather. as of right now i'm just going 3 days a week because i'm trying to find a job.

I don't like doing this, but you need a reality check. You are trying to get into a profession that will require you to get up at horrible hours (I am a night person also) but clinicals start at 6:30 am in a lot of places. Driving during nasty weather is also required as hospitals run 24/7/365. Do the classes during the times you don't like. It will prepare you for what is coming. Good luck in becomming a nurse.
