I have a question for Filipino nurses in Australia

Hi. I would just like to know if it really is a requirement for filipino registered nurses to undergo a bridging course? You see, my boyfriend is a nurse in the Philippines. He's been working as a registered nurse there for over 2 years now. I just recently moved to Vicotria, Australia. He is thinking of moving here too. Recently, he applied for registration at the Nursing Board of Victoria(NBV). And we also found an agency who can help sponsor him going here..so we're just waiting for the NBV registration. Ive been going over the website of NBV, and I dont see anything about a bridging course. I also asked my friend in Canberra(who knows a filipino nurse who migrated from the Phils last december) if he had to undergo a bridging course, he said no. all his friend did was take the ielts exam, apply for registration at the nursing board of NSW, and found an agency that sponsored him. I'm really worried about the bridging course..its really expensive. Hai..it might be much longer than I thought before I see my boyfriend again. I would really appreciate your help and your reply. God bless.

bridging course is not the term. if your already a licensed nurse here in the philippines you should undergo a pre-registration course in australia. That's if you want to work there as a Level 1 (nurse). victoria university offers a pre-registration course. i had an appointment with a registered migration officer of australia about this matter since im also planning to go there. my cousin is already an australian citizen. the pre-registration course is for 3 mos and the fee is around 8k+ australian dollars. after going through the course you'll be a registered nurse in australia. :)

Actually bridging course is the correct term for it, and that is what they call their program there.

The requirements are that one have the local license as well as experience as an RN as a start to be considered for there. If one does not have two years of actual work experience, then the bridging program is required.

Have never heard of it being called a pre-registration program, that is not how it is normally referred to.

And each state has their own requirements for licensure.

And do be aware that this thread was started a year ago, have not seen the poster in some time here.

By definition of the word "bridging", this is what this course is. Each state can call it what they want, but it is a course that brings your training in line with what they do there and evaluate you.

This is how it is called in English. And that is how most programs are called that are directly offered there, the state does not offer the course, it is done thru universities and that is what they call it.

i am interested in applying to ETEA as this was one of the institutions' which had the earliest commencement as of today (Februray 09, 2009) may i know who has gone throu this. what do i need to do? what is the visa required?

victoria university is not under the list of accredited schools for pre registration anymore. my aunt just called a wek ago and Voctoria university said they dont offer that course anymore. maybe that's why NBV dint put it in the list as well. now im stuck with ETEA- thoughi dont know how to go about it. so if there is anyone out there who'd be applying to ETEA for Februrary, pls message me thank you for your help
