So...I've been out of school for about two years now.I graduated with my A.A in 2008 while I was prego and I started my first semester at a 4 year school right after (while I was prego) but did not return to school after giving birth.Well my baby is almost two and I think I'm ready to go back to school.I started out with what seemed like a passion for Nursing.I was so excited about finally starting Nursing school, but got rejected three times b/c my gpa was too low ( I applied with a 3.55 GPA).I graduate with my A.A in Liberal Arts and enrolled in a Education program.I didn't like it at all.I just didn't feel challenged and enthusiastic about it.Plus there are nooo jobs for Teachers. After spending two years at home with my baby,I have NOT lost my zest for life and my desire to be successful, but I have lost my passion for Nursing. As a matter of fact,I just don't see myself in any career.I know I want to continue my Education and become a professional, but I don't know "what I want to be when I grow up." I like the Health field.I feel as if I could become competent working in the field, but I'm not sure which avenue to pursue.I don't mind the length of the time it'll take to complete my course of study.I just wish I had a passion for a specific career, especially a career that's in demand.Any tips on how to rekindle or develop my passion?

There are many other options in the Health care field besides nursing. Google "Health Care Careers" and you'll find many! Don't do nursing if you're not interested in it, it will only eat your soul. lol I've meet a few nurses who hate their careers and they're miserable and they seem to age faster.

Specializes in Flu clinics, Med/Surg, Acute Care.

When I first started looking into nursing school I had just had my daughter. I had a really high g.p.a too but I kept getting wait listed because nursing was in such a high demand. I even considered going to a for profit school and just finishing it in a year (thank goodness I decided against it). Long story short, two years later I decided to try other school universities instead of community colleges. I even called the admissions rep for the nursing program while in the hospital after giving birth to my son. That is how passionate I had become again. I got in and started. At first I hated nursing school, and then I became to love it. I'm happy I choose to become a nurse. I say passion comes and goes, just keep moving forward. You don't have to love something to do it. I was just 21 when I had my daughter and I decided to become a nurse. I became a nurse at 25. I changed my mind a million times along the way lol. So I feel you about not having the passion or being indecisive. All and all I think it was the right choice for me. Just try other schools if you still want to be a nurse. Don't give up!

I've been researching other health careers, but I haven't really made up my mind yet.Public Health seems interesting, but the pay is not that great.I don't want to struggle with the bills.A starting salary of $33,000 is not going to cut it for me.Nope!

kudos to you for being so determined! I just don't know what I like anymore.I've been a stay at home mom for two years now so I haven't been exposed to the outside world as much as before.I'm going to do some volunteering soon. That's one of the best ways to find out if you'll enjoy a career.I also have another thing to worry about: getting into a program! that's another story.

Have you considered spending a few hours a week volunteering in a health care setting to get an idea of something you may like? Or maybe shadow someone in a career you are interested in?

I totally get the feeling of not being sure about what to do with your life. I've been there. I struggled coming to this decision, but I ultimately found out I wanted to be a nurse by volunteering the pediatric cancer ward at Children's Hospital.

Reality is some nurses do make that much, it depends where you live and the cost of living. Here are some other Health Care Professions: Med Lab Technologist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Audiologist, Speech Language Pathologist, MRI Technologist, Sonographer, Pharmacists, Radiological Technologist, Dietitian, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker
