I Passed! I Passed!! I PASSED!!!

After six loooooooong weeks of waiting for the results of the national certification board exam I took in October, I got them today.......and I did it!! I passed!!

I was getting worried for a little while.......almost everyone of the 17 nurses at our hospital who took the test had gotten their results over the weekend, then two more got theirs yesterday. That left one other gal and me, and I'd begun to fear the delay meant we'd failed.... :uhoh21: That would've been bad, as the other 15 had all passed the exam and received their credentials. But when I got home tonight, there was the big envelope with my name and my new title right there on the front........I was so excited I could hardly get it open! It was almost as thrilling as getting my RN license!!

Not only does this mean a 3% wage increase, the certification adds some prestige for us and bragging rights for the hospital, which is the only one in the area which can now boast that almost a third of its med/surg nurses are recognized as specialists in the field. (THAT ought to help us in negotiating a decent contract!!) :p Besides, it just feels good to be told, in an official sense, that I'm a good nurse and know my stuff.

Thank You Lord, and thanks to all of you here at allnurses who encourage and support me in everything I do!! :kiss :D

Med-Surg, if I'm not mistaken, since we both have the same certification is why I noticed. It is indeed a very hard exam.

Specializes in LTC, assisted living, med-surg, psych.

I didn't think the exam was all that difficult.......it was basically about using critical thinking in all sorts of patient care situations, and if you pay attention to what you're doing at work everyday, I'd think pretty much anyone should be able to pass it. It was certainly easier than the NCLEX! :)

I'm just glad I don't have to worry about recertifying for 5 years.......it'll probably take at least that long to squeeze in all the continuing ed I need to keep it........ :uhoh21:
