I am officially a licensed RN!!! YAY!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

On January 7, 2014 I passed NCLEX!!! First, I want to say THANK YOU to ALLNURSES.com!!!! This site was so useful during my nursing school and nclex prep!!!

Since I found many nclex test-takers' posts so helpful, I should post something about my journey to getting my RN license :)

I graduated December 15, 2013. Received ATT around 12/20/2013. Signed up for 'almost' the earliest NCLEX date January 7, 2014.

I signed up for the in-class Kaplan Review from Dec 16-19. In-class was about 99.9% useless. Only because the instructor was unable to teach us the decision tree and she continued contradicting herself, which confused the class of 70. On the other hand, Kaplan was a great resource when reviewing for NCLEX. I did not have much studying time but I did all of the Trainer Tests 1-7 (to guarantee Kaplan refund/continued use), 30% qbank, 3 sample tests, and the alternative quiz. The videos are great if you have the time to watch them! I reviewed most of my tests and if I did not understand a topic, I would review it using Google or other textbooks. Sometimes during the tests, I would review the topic, which would help me remember/learn more about it. ***Note: every instructor is different. I was the lucky one to have her :-/

The night before my test, I skimmed through the NCLEX 35 page study guide (PDF) which was VERY HELPFUL!!!

I wanted to reschedule so badly because of the holidays and not having as much time to study like my fellow classmates, but I decided not to. I told myself to only think positive thoughts from now on until the test! Even if I wanted to doubt myself, I fibbed to myself by saying something like, "I can do this. I want to be a RN. I will do great and pass!"

My test was at 10:00am. It took me 4 hours hours with (I don't know how many questions). Last time I checked before the screen shut off, it was around question 130. Great tips that helped me was to not look at the clock or question number but to focus on each question as if it were a real patient or real work scenario; I took my time answering questions and always brought it down to two best choices before picking the (hopefully) correct one; telling myself to re-focus many times, take a deep breath and start over with the question. I did not give myself any expectations but to do well on the test. I had classmates that wanted to finish the test and pass with 75 questions, but I always said as long as I have less than 265 questions and leave within 6 hours, I will be happy.

Lastly, I refused to do the PVT (Pearson View Trick) and had a classmate do it for me. It gave me the pop up and did not take me to a credit card screen. I did not believe it, I was still negative about my test. Then, around 4:00pm, the state posted my official results saying a permanent license was issued!!! WOOHOO!!!

Congrats!! It's good to know you found out your results that quick. I take my NCLEX Jan 16!! Prayers please!

Congratulation!

Sending lots of luck for you today!!! You will do great!!

If you don't mind me asking..what were your kaplan scores? (QT, diagnostic, readines, qbank). I'm scheduled to take the NCLEX Jan 31st and I'm so nervous!

Yeah I was about to ask the same thing. I had kaplan class and our instructor was great. Right now I am listening to the Kaplan online classroom tutorial. I only took notes for the med section. Others I am listening and hopefully digesting main points the instructors are saying. Did you feel some kaplan questions were incorrect for their rationale. I did the trainer tests 1-4. I am going to do 5 tonight. It takes like 2.5 hrs long to complete. On Qbank- I have been getting 50% of questions right. Usually its my 2 last options thats right. Uggh. I hope I am ready by next week when I do take the NCLEX. The readiness test on the last day of kaplan I got 64% and they said that if you get higher than 60, thats good. But still I am not confident. I am going to pray alot the night before, hoping God keeps me in check.

I did notice 1 or 2 of their rationales didn't add up..so I referred back to the book and sometimes they contraindicate each other:(. weird. I'm also watching content videos as we speak! my scores for Kaplan so far are..

Diagnostic: 60

QT1:68

QT2:59

QT3:66

QT4:66

QT5:66

Readiness:66 (so many 66's)

I have yet to take QT6&7 bcoz I wanted to do some Qbanks before hand and have been averaging 63% with 29% of the bank completed. I scheduled my test for Jan 31st. Prayer works wonders...keep answering questions and pray! We got this!

I created an Excel template of my scores in percentages. I hope you are able to view it below. The bolded numbers are my scores for each category (right side) and each test (bottom). I did the Trainer tests in order and completed Trainer #7 three days prior to NCLEX. My lowest score for Qbank was 30% and I was between 40% to 55% for the longest time. I probably did an average of 15 questions for every Qbank. My learning and studying strategy was to look anything up that I was unsure of. If you need any other information from me you can message me at [email protected], I'd be glad to help with whatever way I can to pass NCLEX :)

Yeah I was about to ask the same thing. I had kaplan class and our instructor was great. Right now I am listening to the Kaplan online classroom tutorial. I only took notes for the med section. I hope I am ready by next week when I do take the NCLEX. The readiness test on the last day of kaplan I got 64% and they said that if you get higher than 60 thats good. But still I am not confident. I am going to pray alot the night before, hoping God keeps me in check.[/quote']

Getting a 64% on the readiness test is great. I was told that the Diagnostic and Readiness test is not as great as the Trainer Test 7. The tests are long! Especially if you take it in one sitting. I had a tendency to take a break or two during the tests. I do suggest taking the tests or answering questions around the same time your NCLEX test will be at.

That is a good thing that your last two choices include the correct answer!!! Next, you need to figure out WHY you kept those two and WHY did you get it right/wrong.

I told myself and all of my fellow classmates this "From now on! You MUST think POSITIVE!" up until you finish NCLEX! Even if you are fibbing to yourself. Lastly, I do not really pray, but I prayed a lot the night before, the morning of, and during the test!!! It helped to keep me calm and motivated to do my best.

I scheduled my test for Jan 31st. Prayer works wonders...keep answering questions and pray! We got this!

You are right, you got this!!!! :) Lots of luck being sent to you!!!!
