It depends on what is going on in your area.

I would "revisit" that first hospital that denied you and show them your progress. Check with all of the area large facilites. I would also check with the school advisor.

My state (NC) provides 2 scholarship loans for nursing students (in hopes that upon graduation, you'll work as an RN in the state for two years. One is academic based and you have to submit an essay and two references. It's $3000/year for two years. They prefer "non-traditional" students (not students right out of HS). The second administered by the same foundation, but is based on need. I'm not sure how much it is.

Check w/your local hospital. They sometimes have scholarship/loan programs as well. Our county hopsital gives $1000/year in hopes that you'll come and work for them upon graduation.

Check to see if your state has a college foundation...

Ask for information in the financial aid office of your school, ask the nursing department if they know of scholarships or grants. Definately do an online search! I used fastweb ( about 4 yrs ago) and I applied for over 20 scholarships. It was very time consuming but in the end worth it. I received 7 of them, although small, when combined it was a great help. If nothing else, you could try for loans. Good luck.

Ok, I got accepted into a nursing program starting this January. Because the program is full time I can only work part time. So therefore I cannot pay for my classes. Does anybody know of any hospitals that will give scholarships. Because of my past performance, when I started college 6 years ago, the 1 hospital I applied to denied me. I have gotten my grades up and have gotten into the program, but now I cant get any financial help. !!!!!! Please let me know if you have any ideas!:)

Don't forget to do your FAFSA! If you borrow the money, there are at least three (that I know of) govt. programs that will forgive your loan if you work in an underserved area for the same amount of years that you went to school. (Which is most places, judging by the list they provide) The three I know of are the Department of Health program (google "Student Aid on the Web" and go to nursing), the Indian Health Services program, and the Veterans Administration program. Check with the health department for your state. Lots of money was given to healthcare loans and aid over the last few years from the government. Some of those are loans that you take out while in school and then if you agree to work in certain areas, those loans are forgiven over the course of so many years (like a pell grant) and you qualify for these loans even if you no longer meet the requirements for student loans.

I also founds tons of loans, grants, etc... by just googling nursing loans, education loans, etc....

if all else fails, you could apply for a loan; during these times, interest rates are pretty good

Even If you are not planning on getting a loan... make sure to fill out your FAFSA. I ended up getting a couple of pall grants that I had no idea I would qualify for. And it is easy... you can do it over the internet... fafsa.com or maybe .gov. And definately consult your financial aide office, they always have lists of odd scholarships... I qualified for one that only applied to women over 30 who were changing careers. I ended having most of my text books paid for by that scholarship.
