a)Describe # if years/type of educational experience

I graduated from LPN school in June 2006, and began working right away at a hospital on a med-surg ortho unit. I also floated voluntarily for extra shifts to med-surg GI. After two years of working there where I either passed meds or team led with the RN's, I transferred to Pediatrics and worked there for a year exclusively as a team leader.

I also went to a local university while working to get my pre-reqs for my bachelors, and now am enrolled in a bridge from LPN-ADN program that I finish in December. Then I will be able to complete my bachelor's back at my univsersity in a year on-line. I chose this route because I wanted to get as much clinical experience and the LPN programs tend to provide that, and I knew I could bridge and get my RN fast. I also wanted the opportunity to work while I was finishing school, but as a nurse.

b)Describe the different roles in which the individual has worked in health care.

I worked in the hospital, a long term care facility for two months over a summer and a long term acute care hospital for a few weeks.

c)Explore how proffessionalism is incorporated in your role as a nurse.

As a nurse, especially on the pediatric floor, it was often only myself and another nurse who were the only ones there. It was our responsibility to provide quality care to our patients and their families, and being peds there was always always family involved. Also we were the only contact for the floor, so we represented our unit to the rest of the hospital, visiting staff, patients, families, etc. It was important to maintain quality care, be empathetic, and maintain a professional demeanor.

d)What advice would each of you offer to a person beginning in the nursing profession?

Make sure you are a people person. It will be one of the top roles required of you. Also aim high! Find your education goal and work towards it, making sure you choose programs that are helpful to your plan.

e)What advice would you offer for the nursing student as they work toward the completion of their degree?

Be sure to get as much clinical experience as possible. Befriend your classmates and work together, avoid cliques and petty behavior. Practice questions from an NCLEX book frequently.

This paper is for my foundations of nursing class. I am to interview all three nurses. Here are the questions that I am supposed to ask:

a)Describe # if years/type of educational experience

I have been an RN for 6 months now. I graduated in June from a RN diploma nursing program.

b)Describe the different roles in which the individual has worked in health care.

While I was in nursing school, I worked as a PCT. I am glad I worked in the field prior to becoming a nurse as it helped me to feel much more comfortable. I worked as a PCT on an adult med-surg floor for a year and a half. Then, I transferred to an adolescent floor for the remaining 6 months of school. I am now a RN on the adolescent floor.

c)Explore how proffessionalism is incorporated in your role as a nurse.

I try to watch what I say and how I say things at work, especially since most of my patients are minors. I also do my best to follow hospital policys.

d)What advice would each of you offer to a person beginning in the nursing profession?

To have a good mentor that you can go to and ask questions. Don't be afraid to admitt you didn't learn everything in school.

e)What advice would you offer for the nursing student as they work toward the completion of their degree?

To all ways be looking for learning opportunities in clinical. All ways go into a new rotation with an open mind, and never say you won't work in certain areas. You might surprise yourself.

no "thank you" from the poster to the two responders? :uhoh3:
