I need help studying for the nclex-rn exam...I failed 1st try last July 28'08..:(

Dear friends and colleagues,

My name is Marie Dee Cline. I'm a foreign-nurse residing here Ohio. I took my board exam last July 28, 2008. Sad to say I finished the test with 75Questions but didn't made it. I am very devasted. I haven't reapplied for the boards yet, since I had to recuperate (i don't know if that's the right spelling). Well finally, I am just trying to get back in track here again. I sincerely need help or any suggestions to help me prepare even more bolder and better for my 2nd time, and hopefully that'll be my 2nd and last take.

I was enrolled last time for kaplan and ati but unfornately like I said I wasn't really that ready nor prepared I guess. It was not like I was expecting to pass my first take..I was actually hesitant to take it my my instructors said that I was ready since my practice score have been steady and up and the classes was done.. The truth was, when I took the exam it was though I was totally clueless, my mind just went on blank. Totally blank! It was awful.

I surely do hope this time around I will be more proficient esp. on my nursing content and critical skills on answering board questions which I totally lack! To be honest, even if I'm ashamed to say this, but I'll say it anyway, my performace evaluation states that I was below the passing standard on 6 categories and 2 categories states near the passing standard. Like I said, shameful and awful...totally dissapointing. I was totally depressed..and it took a while for me to regain myself, my strength, and my determination to get back studying and try to pass this test again one more time.

Now, I'm ready to fight, study hard, prepare even more than I did. I truly want to be ready this time around.

Could anybody pls. help me out...Could anybody help me establish an effective study plan or something or any suggestion on a reference material. I truly need help...anything! I'd truly appreciate it. :o

I would really love and would like to hear from anybody hear and have your input. Please help me.

Hello there!

Thank you so much for responding to my posted email, i sincerely appreciate it. I am really intersted with the plan I am quite confused though how to be qualified for it...i did read and print off the rules on how to be a member of suzanne's list and be able to access her plan. But I am left wondering, would that mean I have to wait ti'll like I will be able to post like 15 bulletins or threads in here? No harm waiting though, I'm a patient person..but I was just a bit confused with the process.

I do have Saunder's comprehensive 4th ed which I just recently purchased, I haven't really read it yet. I surely do hope I'll be able to be more prepared this 2nd time around. I also did purchased saunder's Q & A cards as well.

I was just reading through the threads posted here online, I have been a member for awhile but never had the chance to log in in the forum ti'll now. I usually just read through...even through reading it boost up my confidence all through nursing school and review. I do hope I can find new friends around who shares the same delimma and determination as I have here in succeeding someday to be a bonafide RN. :nurse:

Before you can send a pm to Suzanne you need to complete the first tip, that will take a few days to a month depending on how much time you can allocate to it. You do not have to read the book but only do the quiz at the end of each chapter. If you get over 75% then go onto the next chapter. If you get less than 75% then you read the chapter and retake the quiz. Once you have 15 posts you can send a pm and to do that you need to click on member's name and then select send private message in the drop down box. Remember to include the information in the format she requests in the sticky

I'll certainly do that...I actually started yesterday taking the quiz in the back of one chapter. I will follow diligently as instructed. I sure do hope I can pm ms. suzzane, but I don't think I have reach 15 posts yet. I don't even know how to do that.

i am in the same case than you.......i am foreigned educated nurse, i am living in CA since one year and a half now. I failed on my first test this last October and i have to study all over. i am also dissapponted but we need to do it and i know we can do it. Like some of them said, we are foreigner so there is just 40% who can do it the first time. It s not our cultur and our language so it s hard for us even for Amercians so don't be upset and be confident for the next time.

I can be here for you if you want. i am also waiting for Suzanne's plan.

We can send messages and help each other during our studies .....

When will you take your 2nd test?

Hi im a filipina, im here in valley..i didnt study that much before..I dont knw where to start.. i have 4th edition saunders,I did kaplan but it didnt work for me..

Hi Virginie! Sorry it took a while for me to respond. I haven't been online since days now..i have been trying to get myself all straighten up to study again. I would certainly like that, us sending messages to each other for our studies..that will surely help us. I am kinda planning to take my 2nd test on january. I am really not ready to take the test yet. I actually just purchased the saunder's 4th ed book last month and I'm not even close to reading it, I've covered like 10 units or chapters that's it. I have the kaplan course book which I have to start rereading again. Gush! I'm going for a brain meltdown really! I also just purchased a couple of q and a books from lippincott and gauwitz (delmar) and so as the nursing insanely easy booklet, nclex made rediculously easy and the nursing 101: how to pass which some of the students here recommended it to me. I'm still waiting for it in the mail. I hope it will aid me with my review. I am really tired of studying but I won't give up. I really would want to pass this test this time around. Let's help one another. I'll surely share you some of my notes and we can exchange each other q and a's or something even bullets what do you say. Let's make sure we'll do it this time around. :-) what do you say. I'm really glad you responded to my thread. I truly appreciate it. I'd certainly would want to be your study girl friend. Helo gurl! You're a filipina too? so am I. I live here berlin heights ohio. I took my 1st take and was not really that prepared..I've been here for a year and half i am so sick and tired of studying..hopefully i'll be more prepared on my 2nd take and be fortunate enough to pass it..I actually jsut got the 4th ed saunders just now..it's quite a thick book. I was enrolled in kaplan as well before didn't work for me as well. We all can help each other here to pass this test again once and for all what do you say. We can share each other's notes and quizzes or something...Let us all help each other pass this test. :clown:
