Dear friends and colleagues,
My name is Marie Dee Cline. I'm a foreign-nurse residing here Ohio. I took my board exam last July 28, 2008. Sad to say I finished the test with 75Questions but didn't made it. I am very devasted. I haven't reapplied for the boards yet, since I had to recuperate (i don't know if that's the right spelling). Well finally, I am just trying to get back in track here again. I sincerely need help or any suggestions to help me prepare even more bolder and better for my 2nd time, and hopefully that'll be my 2nd and last take.
I was enrolled last time for kaplan and ati but unfornately like I said I wasn't really that ready nor prepared I guess. It was not like I was expecting to pass my first take..I was actually hesitant to take it my my instructors said that I was ready since my practice score have been steady and up and the classes was done.. The truth was, when I took the exam it was though I was totally clueless, my mind just went on blank. Totally blank! It was awful.
I surely do hope this time around I will be more proficient esp. on my nursing content and critical skills on answering board questions which I totally lack! To be honest, even if I'm ashamed to say this, but I'll say it anyway, my performace evaluation states that I was below the passing standard on 6 categories and 2 categories states near the passing standard. Like I said, shameful and awful...totally dissapointing. I was totally depressed..and it took a while for me to regain myself, my strength, and my determination to get back studying and try to pass this test again one more time.
Now, I'm ready to fight, study hard, prepare even more than I did. I truly want to be ready this time around.
Could anybody pls. help me out...Could anybody help me establish an effective study plan or something or any suggestion on a reference material. I truly need help...anything! I'd truly appreciate it.
I would really love and would like to hear from anybody hear and have your input. Please help me.
Sincerely,
:heartbeatMarie:heartbeat
Hey Marie. Well if kaplan doesn't work for you means you have to change your strategy. I learned the hard way and did kaplan alone for my first two takes. Third take I did Saunders and Suzanne's Plan and I passed. I beleive you have 15 posts now so you'd be able to send a private message to her now. But before doing that you have to finish the first tip.
I read the first 10 chapters in priority, delegation and assignment. The questions I found pretty tough but it makes for really good practice. The majority of questions they kept throwing at me were in there.
I also have the delegation and assignment by charity its a good book too..I have a friend from here in cali she just passed nclex-rn last week. She went to wisconsin and I dont know what name of the review center..But u have to pay 5th dolars..But its worth it coz she passed
Hi girls
I finish my first tip and i am waiting for the second tip......i hope this time it will work for me.......i am also agree to help each other, you can share everything we have to put the best chance with us........let me know if you need something.
How did you study, i guess it was not the good way so we have to change the strategy? how many hours per day ? with which books?
Take care
Nini
Hi Marie
I would like to take it in January too.......i guess i am going to be concentrated just on few books like the 4th with Suzanne's plan and i have a Kaplan book too (so rereading again) and maybe take NCSBN online, is not expensive and you can get all the courses and many questions who are the same that the NCLEX ( who can read some girls used it and passed it)
Do you have a chat address like msn maybe it will be easier to share our stuff? just an idea......let me know........
We can share our cards, our questions.....eveything to make it....ok
Take care
Nini
Just those Two. Saunders 4Th Edition and Priority Delegation and Assignment by Linda Ann Lacharity. I really think that's all you need. Not to mention Saunder's has enough questions to offer as it is. 4212 questions and I didn't even get to finish them all before I tested. All the medications that were thrown at me on my test are in there too. Try to master your heart drugs like lol pine's, statins. I noticed that psychiatric drugs are a need to know as well. Study your MAO, SSRI's, Tricyclic antidepressants, lithium etc. What cannot be combined with drugs and when to notify the physician. I'm pretty sure something in there will come out.
Hi lvdreamer..what other books did u study?

Hello there! Yes kaplan and ati didn't worked for me. As soon as I got here US, cleveland state univ. encouraged me to enroll with ati and kaplan online which i totally did and followed everything they instructed me to do for the six months of preparation after passing my toefl.ibt and cgfns last year...i did all their assessment exams online, etc. and when the classes was done they told me I was ready, though i thought i wasn't at all. But went took the exam anyway last july 28'08 and found out that I had like 75 questions with a lot of computations and pharmacology problems and scenarios which it totally blow off my mind coz i didn't have a clue with those new drug and their side effects and the formulas on how to solve those computation problems including the conversions with heparin and stuff..which wasn't really thought in my online course neither have my instructor/ reviewer in class. I was really devastated. Definitely clueless:uhoh21: with 15 questions with those type and the computer just shot off and i had that gut feeling i wouldn't make it...after two days i found out i didnt.
It's really awful..trying to study back again and get back on my feet. But I'm ready and i'm willing to give it my all this time around. I hope you all can help me as well!
:bowingpur I have been doing the first tip actually answering the quizes in the back of every chapter..right? and if i get like 75% and higher then i moved on in another unit/chapter if not i then read the whole text and retake the quiz in the back again opting for 90% or higher. I'm doing it right? am I?
Do i have to finish all the book first before contacting Ms. suzzanne? I really hope she will help me prepare for this nclex-rn exam...i know she is awfully quite busy with everybody here online asking for her. I totally hope I can have her study plan and work on it...I really want to pass this time around. I surely hope I'd be as furtunate as you passing this test and finally be able to inhale and breathe..congratulations for passing the test and for reaching your dream as an RN.
I hope i can be ready and be able to prepare enough to pass this test too.
