Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

hello there. i'm not an lpn as of yet, but i will be in 2008 permitting if i pass the test. i'm not really good in math and i have disliked it all my life. as you know, nurses need a lot of math in order to do doseage calculations, ht. and wt., surface area, drug doseages for peds, monitoring iv, giving im, sq, or id injection etc...i hope math won't be my downfall as a nurse because i really love nursing! does anybody have any suggestions about an easier way to do mental math for drug calculations??? any help will be appreciated. thank you so much. :):):)

:nurse:Question, should I go for my CNA certificate? I figure if i don't get into the Fall 2008 semester of my CC LVN program I could get my CNA certificate and gain some nursing experience and get a job to help with the bills. Any advice on what the classes are like would be great:dncg:!!! keep me posted ok!!!

Hello Missy. How r u? I am doing alright...I hope that you are doing fine. I think that if you don't get into the LVN 2008 program, then you should go for your CNA This will give you an oppountinty to work as a CNA and get the basic level of nursing. The classes are usually a yr long and I think that in the time it takes you to take the class, pass the CNA test, and get a job, your LVN course of 2009 will probably be right around the corner. Keep in mind that your don't need your CNA to be in the LVN program (well, in Fl you don't). Althogh, it would be helpful if your knew some basics of nursing and that will help steer in your LVN program. I say the ultimate decision is yours, my friend. Do what you want to do. But geting a job as a CNA will not hurt; permitting if you don't get into the 2008 LVN program. But I wanna let u know that I'm rooting for ya and I hope that you will get into the fall 2008 LVN program. Also bear in mind that working and doing the LVN program is hard work. As a CNA your working schedule is very flexible and you can work weekends if you want to. Just keep in mind that the LVN class requires lot of time and dedication. It might be stressful that handle both work and LVN classes. Plus you have a family, so that makes it even more stressful to handle. But I've heard people who can handle that. You just have to know what you r capable of. If you think you can handle that go ahead for it Missy!!! I support you either way. I wish you good luck making your decision. Well srry for the long post. I hope it was helpful. Well I guess I'll ttyl... keep me posted. :):):):nurse:

ohh yea, I forgot to tell you what the CNA classes are like. CNA classes are lot of book work and hands-on- skills. For example, you will learn how to do bed making, feeding the patient (pt), dressing the patient, bathing the pt, ambulation, taking vital signs, cleaning dentures, doing intake and output, transferring a pt, lifting a pt up in bed, changing the pt's position every 2 hrs and there's a lot more but that is all I can think of for now. You also learn in the class what to report to the nurse. For example, if the pt is in pain or having difficult having a bowel movement or difficulty breathing. The CNA class is not mentally hard; it's just physically hard. There is not a lot of critical thinking involved for CNA's. This is more of the role of an LPN/LVN. You job as a CNA is to get all the tasks competed. I hope this helps. Keep me posted.

ok, I read in the other post that you started that yuo said that the CNA classes are only 4 wks long! Well, it's good! I definitley suggest that you work as a CNA... I do admit the the pay it not really that great, but if it's experience you're looking for then go for it!!!:cheers:
