I have a writing assignment due tonight at midnight where I have to interview an experienced RN and none of my nursing instructors/nurse friends are getting back to me because it's summer and they're all on vacation... So if anyone can answers these interview questions I would greatly appreciate it!!

1.) What does a [insert your specialty] do on a regular basis?

2.) What are some of the challenges of this job?

3.) What would you do differently in acquiring this job?

4.) What is the best part of the job?

5.) Why did you choose this career?

6.) What is the best advice you can give to someone in college and starting on this career path?

her assignment is to ask professional practicing nurses interview questions and she does exactly that by going on a forum full of nurses to get these questions answered, and all anyone can seem to focus on is why she waited to late? as if these questions are easier to answer if the due date was a day later?

ill never get over how self righteous some people here can be.

anyway, not sure what time zone you're in but since im just now seeing this post, best case scenario its 11:40pm where you are, so personally i'm not going to bother at this point. but if you somehow get an extension or still want some answers ill be happy to throw some tidbits at ya

Self righteous? Where were any of us self righteous?

The whole purpose of interviewing someone is to do so face to face, you can't do that over the Internet. Also, can you verify our credentials? Just because we're on a forum called AllNurses & clicked a box that says LVN/LPN/ASN/ADN/BSN doesn't mean we really are. This is the Internet & the nursing world is smaller than you realize so we want to remain as anonymous as possible.

Since no one gives out their first & last name or license number, how do you know we are really working nurses? What if we are bored housewives who just read up on the profession?

Not everything on the internet is true.

I just wanna understand, why do people get so offended if other people have different opinions than their's & then call people bullies because of it. C'mon now! Seriously? No one was mean or harsh to the OP.

I'm in 3 online summer sprint 6 week courses right now, which is the equivalent of 19 credit hours. I work full time and have children. I knew I had a paper due, however I didn't know it had an interview component because I was so busy doing my assignments for my other courses and working. I emailed every nurse I know but it is very last minute so I posted on here as a back-up in case no one could get back to me. I'm a Junior nursing student with a 3.96 GPA. It was an honest mistake, had I known there was an interview component I would have contacted nurses sooner. I have received responses from nurses I know in real life and completed the assignment, but this was unnecessarily harsh.

No one was unnecessarily harsh.

How can you prioritize your assignments without knowing what each one entails? It was up to you to understand your assignment before deciding it was OK to leave it for the last minute.

Why would you expect to post a homework assignment on an anonymous forum and receive only answers you like?

Really find it kinda annoying and obnoxious that people take the time to point out the obvious (homework assignment - and last minute), as if the original poster was not already aware of the situation. If you don't want to help then don't comment, but no need to judge and discipline people about being late for assignment, etc....

And I find it annoying (and obnoxious) that people take the time to post in order to chastise people whose comments they find annoying or obnoxious by telling those people that they shouldn't comment unless they're willing to provide answers that the poster doesn't find annoying and obnoxious. Kinda hypocritical, no?

The thing is, her assignment was to ask professional, practicing nurses her interview questions and rather than do that, she went on an anonymous forum full of people she doesn't know and cannot verify are actual nurses. Your comments chastising the posters who were "self-righteous" in your viewpoint are rather self-righteous in their own right.

Here, just in case you forgot what the definition of Interview was:

Well, I admit I was a little harsh since I was in a bad mood when I commented. For that, I apologize.

That said, it is important for people to point out the importance of time management, as well as following the intent of the assignment. It's not busy work. It's to get real insights from a real nurse.

There's a thread I commented on just a few days ago on here where someone is identifying themselves as an RN, yet they haven't even taken NCLEX yet.

This is not the place to interview a nurse, when there are is no way of confirming you're getting what you need out of the assignment.

This has always been a topic on this forum. A student comes here asking to interview a nurse. We tell them that there is no way of knowing if the person is responding is truly a nurse and the purpose of the assignment is to do a face to face interview. Someone else jumps on and calls them bullies for not answering their questions. Is it at all possible to make this a TOS? In the world of texting and social media, have we lost the ability to converse with others face to face?

YES YES YES! Puh-lease (this is me begging down on my knees) add this to the TOS!!!!

There are all kinds of things in the TOS. I don't think we really need to add more. I never really minded filling out the occasional interview homework. I felt these assignments were, well, juvenile. However as time has gone by and the internet has grown I now believe that we are losing the ability of face to face conversation. I think it is important that those who are going into nursing to be able to conduct a face to face interview. Many subtle cues can be observed in a patients body language with the admission interview being the most important. Interviewing is a skill that need to be developed and perfected just like heart tones and B/P.

My thoughts exactly. As if this assignment will profoundly change her practice, or better yet, her being face to face with whom she interviews will drastically change the outcome. This is classic nursing school busy work, and her classmate admitted to even making up the answers proving how inconsequential these assignments tend to be in the long run.

But continue prattling on about how she, and myself for that matter, really needs to understand the importance of doing this assignment FACE TO FACE.

"PRATTLE" interesting word. Prattle, talk at length in a foolish or inconsequential way. I don't think that drawing attention to a valuable nursing skill is "prattling".

In every aspect of nursing we must do tasks that place us face to face with the patient. Paying attention to a patients non verbal language can be profoundly enlightening. Nurses cannot under estimate the information that can be obtained especially the initial interview whether on the street (when I was a flight nurse/EMT-P), triage, or admission. I believe that the interview (which is face to face) is a skill as important as starting an IV.
