Hi everyone,
I am somewhat a shy person, for some reason when it comes to interviews I seem to just do so many things that are just not myself, first I get nervous and talk way too much and repeating the same things over and over again and making the person who's interviewing me so confuse that there's little silent moments between questions, and God forbid it's a panel interview I just loose my whole sense of self preservation, I just blew my first real interview and some of the question that were asked was simply questions that if I had took the time to focus about the company and the company that I previously work for I would of been able to answer them.
Now after all that is said, how many of you so far after an interview good or bad the company making you still do a survey and provide them with references and base on how fast they get the references back that's when they give you an offer o not offer you the job? I think this a new trend and it's nerve wrecking to wait just to get turn down.
Can someone tell me how do I get over this and how can I go about interview nightmares...?

I am a shy person when it comes to interview. I did horrible on my first interview because I was really nervous.
I rambled during the interview and there was silent moments between questions.
But that experience tremendously helped me to get over my fear and shyness and now i work in this amazing
hospital.
Just practice, practice, practice. Practice makes everything perfect!
Most nurse recruiter or nurse manager wants to know if the candidates know why this unit, why nursing,
why this hospital. Also is the candidate capable of providing patient care with great customer skill and right attitude.
We all survived nursing school and passed the board. Be more confident!

Try taking a moment to meditate before your interview. Literally just sit down, close your eyes and think about nothing more than your breath. It's harder than it sounds, but once you give it a try you will see sometimes in order to get your thoughts straight you must clear your mind first. Also, I think that there is nothing wrong with being open and telling them up front you can be shy or nervous during interviews so you may take a short minute to think about the question and then respond. All you want to do is give them the best, honest answer you can that depicts who you really are.....who wouldn't love that?

OP, you sound like me. I've been doing this 10 years, am great at my job, but clam up when the interview questions begin. I have found practicing in the mirror, or recording yourself works pretty well when you speak. It helped me identify what my "ticks" are.

I have noticed that when I first started interviewing for nursing jobs, I would draw blanks when asked the typical 'give an example' interview questions. Try to look at some of the other posts on common interview q's and be able to answer those common questions using past experiences that you had in nursing school. I was able to land my first RN job by doing this. Take each interview as a learning experience. You WILL get better at them! I recently had several phone interviews. I noticed by the final one I was so comfortable and had multiple examples for different questions. Keep at it, you will land a job!

I had an interview yesterday at a hospital in Brooklyn NYC...I was sooo nervous! Oh my God! This was my first interview ever! I am a new grad and inexperienced. So I feel your pain. I was so shy so I started rambling. My worst part was when the director of nursing and manager interviewed me at the same time and asked me scenarios! I was so nervous I forgot that the most basic tool for nurses to carry is the stethoscope! duh airway is always priority!! Even someone who isn't a nurse would get that! They also asked me priority questions and other questions and each time I knew I got it wrong because the director would tell me what the answer should have been. Basically I screwed up. This was my shot and I blew it! I guess it's a learning experience but like you, I feel down right now...and I don't know when/where my next interview will be
PurpleDelight: keep applying...you will get more chances. For some reason it seems as though you don't hear anything and then BAM, you have multiple interviews lined up. There was a time i didn't hear anything back for months and then received 3 calls to schedule interviews in 1 day. Apply everywhere...if you aren't hearing anything back, revisit your resume'. It is possible it just needs reworked. Just keep trying, be persistent! Also, make sure you are sending a thank you letter post interview.
