It took me two months, I applied a lot of different places near my home in Mississippi, I did not have any experience, I have a BSN and I worked on a med surg/resp. floor.

How much critical care does one need before they can be considered for flight nursing? It seems so exciting..all I have dont thos is med surg so I know I need to get some critical care under my belt.

If you work hard, study hard and keep believing that you will succeed, it will happen. Simple as that. The biggest thing holding you back right now, is not your "average" acedemic profile, its your confidence. YOU CAN DO THIS. I was an average student. I failed two nursing courses, was let back into the program and got extremely focused and passed all my fourth semester tests, then took the NCLEX and passed it the first time, stopping at 75 questions. If you are unfamiliar with the NCLEX, I will explain. You have to take at least 75 questions, with the max being I think around 250. If you are getting more wrong than right, the computer will keep giving you a new question, until you make enough right to be in the passing percentile. If you are doing fabulous and get to the minimum, 75, then the test will cut off. I believe that people can take just 75 questions and still fail, but that means you had to get almost every question wrong, but like I said study, and you will make it. Just set your focus to the goal, don't worry about all the stuff you feel like you can't do. Try this, everytime I thought comes to your mind of "I can't" come back with a "I can" You can study, you can pass the tests, you can stay positive, you can be a nurse.

I didn't work during the last semester, but I did during the rest. and I know a lot of people who had kids and worked. You know, maybe working on a floor part time as a tech would be something to consider.

I haven't heard it, but I feel you. That seems pretty hurtful towards folks who do work as CNAs or with an ADN. No one is better than anyone. point, blank

Anyone out there taken an assignment from NursesRx. I have never traveled before and I am doing my research on each company that offers me a contract. Thank You for any info. -Catherine

I feel you. I hate to be ugly but it can be soooo frustrating when you have morbidly obese patients in your facility needing to be waited on hand and foot and yet they still are snacking and drinking soda. It's such a fine line to cross..with reimbursements directly affected to HCAPP scores and patient satisfaction. You don't want to be rude or upset the patient but so many times to I want to say "You shouldn't eat that, that's not part of your diet the Dr. ordered." but people are so sensitive to that subject and it can really rub them the wrong way. All you can do is give the best possible care, without judgment but also protect your body. Turn heavy pt's when you have extra help, don't try it alone.

I feel like a BSN is truly only useful if you want to pursue another degree or MGMT position. I have a BSN and work with A LOT of people who have an ADN and we all make just about the same amount of money and do they same sort of tasks during our shift. I think ADN is great. It is half the time and money but you still will be an RN

I want to spread some hope to anyone in the same boat or maybe even a worse boat (a denied appeal). I failed two classes in school too, and everyone that I knew who had once apealed got back in. So even though I was extremely upset, I felt like I had a chance. Well, they denied my appeal. The teachers said that I had missed too many days of class. I was so confused; I had only missed two days..Every time that classmet we took a quiz that was electronic and it posted the grades online. The class met 15 times. I had 13 daily quiz grades online. Which means I only missed two days. I printed that off and showed the dean and what do you know, they were wrong and I was right. AND now I have been an RN for almost 3 years. So please don't anyone give up too easily. If you can show them that you deserve this, and you believe you can do it YOU CAN DO IT. I know everyone's situation is different, but try everything you can!!

I want to get my masters, primarily so I can teach. However, everyone tells me I should get my NP but will that still allow me to teach at most Universities. Thank you for any info.

I am curious if being a school nurse is a job that people usually find through word of mouth or do they post them online? I think it would be a good job for me but I am new to the area I live in now and haven't really had any luck asking around. Thank you for any info.

I have played with the idea of traveling for so long. I feel like I just need to go for it and then I will know for sure if its for me. I am originally from Mississippi, but now living in Maine. Maybe a seasonal position would be better for me. Does anyone have any advice or tips for me about what I should be asking my recruiter? I have only spoke with a person from AmericanMobile and CrossCountry.

I know there are a million questions on travel nursing. I have read a lot of people's topics but I want to be able to PM people, so I need to start somewhere and this topic is most interesting to me at this moment. So if anyone would like to share some positive feedback about their travel nursing experience I would love to hear about it. I feel like I know a whole lot about all the neg. aspects about it but I know there are a lot of good reasons too. Please, do tell. Thank you :)
