I love working in the NHS because..........................

World UK

Published

There has been quite a bit of negativity about the NHS and working in the UK on this forum recently so instead of another thread saying how bad things are and how much we hate our co-workers I thought it would be nice to have a more positive thread. I'll start

I loved my job because:

I am a nurse practitioner in general surgery and recently I put a bid together to support a more formalised pre-assessment service, I took it to my senior managers who supported it and took it to the trust board. I have recieved confirmation today that it is a project that will be supported and funded by my trust.

There is money there you just have to try to put together a good case to access it.

Well...........After reading the majority of these threads......I feel truly sick! I start nursing in 3 weeks time. I've handed my notice in with my current employer as a Marketing Executive!

Although I had done my research.......these comments have made me very apprehensive! I have spoken to a large number of nurses and about 80% of them enjoyed nursing. And although they had a few horror stories....they were nothing compared to this!

Unfortunately mableUk..... the thread has turned into ' What is possibly the worst that could happen in the Nhs'. I'm glad your comments have kept me feeling slightly positive :)

I suppose all I can hope is that my experience is more positive and I will take note of all points mentioned....and hope the majority of them don't happen to me!!!!!

Thank you Denise and you are very welcome. There are lots of experiences to be had within the NHS some good some bad, you can learn from both. Don't allow yourself to become a victim of the system and enjoy the difference you CAN make to the patient. I still love being a nurse, I love where I work and the job I do. Good luck with your training

I did & do love nursing & even if I couldn't have got my current job I would never have left nursing altogether. The team I worked with were great but the climate is difficult so a little bit of forwarned is forarmed applies here.

It's not nursing we hate just the current conditions.

Please do not be put off, the job is great just be prepared to fight the odd battle or three!

A classic example of the exploitation of overseas nurses. Hopefully, that didn't happen in the NHS that we all love.

Yep......it's fear of the unknown! I know things will be hard, but it's the inconsistency of love/hate for nursing/nhs that has me feeling unsettled! But it is preparing me for what lies ahead, so i thank you for all your comments good or bad!

Seems a bit like Marmite. There seems no inbetween. Either people are voicing for nursing, or against it!

But if now after reading these threads i go into nursing fearing the very worst, then things can only get better! :)

Too true!!

By the by if you're thinking of ever going to the USA some time after you qualify be sure to try & get in all the extra modules you'll need while still in university - maternity, paediatrics, psychiatry! Oh & make sure you stay general adult after the foundation year. Then at least if you find after a couple of years you want out you'll be able to go!:wink2:

I truly wish you all the best in your training and in your future xxx

I am closing this thread at the request of the OP, and I fully her support her reasons and rationale behind this request.
