I lost my car then my home

I have lost my car then my house all because I want to be a nurse. I got laid off from a factory that was in financial destuction and they didn't know if they could remain open or not. During this lay off I had alot of time to think about what I was going to do and I desided to pursue my dream and become a nurse. I got a letter stating that I was being called back. I desided to make the biggest desision of my life and that was to go back to school instead of back to the factory. I went from making $13.25 per hour to $7.25 per hour working as a nursing assistant at a nursing home. As I progressed in school I had to cut back on my hours to work and at this time I had my car repossesed and now I am being evicted from my home.My husband is working but it's still not enough to make ends meat. I am increasing my hours at work again so that hopfully I can somehow manage to do both school and work and raise my three childern. I have to make sacrifices along the way and it gets really tough sometimes but we are all healthy and have each other and if worse came to worse I could move back home but that would make for a crowded house. I want to be a nurse more than anything in the world and will do so as long as my family and I have each other and aren't in any danger.:)

One step backward ... two steps forward. Hang in there.

prayers and hugs to you and your family..........

Gordi, I know how you are feeling...having a bit of a rough time myself. I just keep telling myself that it is only temporary and someday soon it will get better and a little easier. I don't mind so much the sacrifices that I have to make, but I sure hate to see my kids making them with me. Believe me though I do plan to make it up to them tenfold, and they have their lists ready!! HaHa. Just take things one day at a time, one test at a time, one obstacle at a time...etc. God bless you and all the best to you and your family.

That is so nice of all of you to write me back with such words of encouragment. I needed that very much so. It is people like you that make this world a better place to live in. I now with this support I feel I can do this and this gives me a little extra willpower to go on.

Again thank you all! :)

(((Gordi)))) We must live in the twilight zone!! This is exactly what I am going through. Worked in a machine shop for 11 years. They found out that I was taking my pre-req's for the nursing prog. at night. When time for a lay-off came, I got it! I went from 14.50/hr to 7.50/hr as a CNA at local LTC facility. We will be filing bankrupt in the next 2 weeks. I guess that's the price you pay for following your dreams.

Good Part--- In two years you can replace it all with even better!!! Keep on hanging in there!!! ;)

Any way you can use the experience you now have to get more bang for your buck? Is there any other place you could get to without a car that might pay more? Where I work there is a differential for eves and a higher one for nites. Some of the CNA's work a double shift once a week to minimize travel time and childcare arrangements, according to their individual situations. Also, if you are able to work for an agency, some of our local ones will keep you at one hosp but the pay is much higher for this. (Some of the agency CNA's make more than some LPN's at our place. Do hang in there. I remember the glorious feeling of opening my first paycheck after graduaing from CNA to RN and it was about double my previous check!

Gordi- My hisband left me over my dream of becoming a nurse. I lost my house, my boat, my job-everything. My husband did some nasty things to destroy our credit rating so I didnt qualify for student loans and had to declare bankruptcy after discovering that he had run up a $37000 debt during my first semester of school (Id just left him) I struggled alot. Half the time I had nothing to eat, I slept in my car for a week etc etc etc. The last 4 years were the hardest of my life. I just finnished nursing school last month. I graduated with the highest comprehensive exam mark in the school and I just landed a full time job in the burn/trauma unit. I love it!!!!!!!!! My advice to you is that if you have a dream dont let anything get in your way. Put on blinders and focus. Damn everything else. Become obsessed! If you dont go thru the hard times to pull it off you will spend a lifetime experiencing "what ifs" "could haves" and "only ifs" Trust me, this is not any way to live life. In the end you will have your dream and be fulfilled. Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suzilee has given you the best advice--what she went through almost made me cry when I read her post. Sometimes in the middle of adversity, we cannot see the strengths we possess. She had lots of strengths, as I know you do too. You DO have each other, and 3 beautiful kids. And you are healthy!! So many people would give wealth away to be intact and healthy. Sure its hard now-I agree that you must become obsessed.Clip every coupon, get reduced lunches for the kids, shop in thrift stores-in essence do EVERYTHING YOU CAN to remain in school. That is your focus, because life will get much easier, I promise, after you get that diploma. I have a strong faith that after much adversity in my own life, our Maker has a life plan for us. I am exactly at the point where I am meant to be, and went through things to gain the wisdom and strength to be where I am now. Sure it has been hard getting here but life is easier now than it was before for so many years. I made it, you can too. ONE DAY AT A TIME. Most of all, do not give up! You're in too deep to quit and give up now, and I know you will make a super, super nurse. Best of luck, k

Praying for you and your family (((((hugzzzz))))) Keep your chin up sweetie...you CAN achieve anything you set your mind to..Remembering my days of struggle, self doubt, fears about the future when in school too...living on balogna & scrambled egg sandwiches..if I had to eat one today I'd puke..lol..seems sometimes the harder you have to struggle/sacrifice for something the more worthwhile it is and the more you appreciate it.I wish you the best of luck and have faith in your success :)

I just wanted to let all of you know how encouraging it has been to me to read all of your posts. I have been accepted into the nursing program and I will begin my nursing courses this fall. The only catch is I have to leave my full-time day shift job because the nursing courses are all in the daytime. I want to be a nurse more than anything, it is my lifelong dream. I have been very worried at times about what my family and I would do about our financial situation when I have to take a lower paying, part time job. I just know that if the good Lord has purposed for me to be a nurse, that he will see me and my family through this. It may not be easy, I don't expect it to, but He will take care of us and we will make it.

It is encouraging to know that we are not the only ones going through this and that all of you made it through!

Gordi, hang in there and show what you are made of. It will be hard and I can feel for you and sympathize with you. I was a nurse for 26 years and last year became disabled and unable to work. I just found out that I will not have a hearing for up to 2 years. I don't know how in the name of heaven we are going to make it because my husband is also disabled and we will have to live off of what he gets. Let go and let God. It will work and you will be a stronger person for it. You will be in my thoughts and prayers and you will be in God's hands, but you first have to give it to God to handle for you, no ifs ands or buts. God bless.
