Stick it here and I'll answer what I can. I know the search isn't always useful, but try that first, and then if you have any questions feel free to post. I'm off on Sunday and Tuesday of this week (10 April 2010).
From the sponsor perspective, let me say that sometimes we find out we are supposed to be someone's sponsor, we call the person and they are already at COT! I don't know how the notification process works but it's less than perfect. Go easy on your sponsor because they may not even know that they've been appointed!I got contacted by my sponsor when I was a COT. Needless to say it was too late and I thought she was a slacker. Not that I'm on the other end of things I see how the process (at least at my base) is broken.
This is true - but apparently right now it's becoming a bigger problem and most of it's down to AFPC, not the bases. Mid can tell you that. :)
I'm beginning to wonder what's going on at Randolph, even though I know what ranking sources are telling me.
So when I said go through your recruiter (and I see how that made me sound a bit like a dork) - going through the recruiter will light a fire under SOMEONE (be it at NTP, or the more likely location is AFPC).
When you travel on the AF dime you should never have to pay the baggage fee. When you go to check in, tell them you are active duty then show your ID and/or orders and they will waive the fee on the spot. I fly United every time I go TDY and they charge some crazy fee for baggage. I've never had to pay it because I had my ID with me. I've even known people to show their ID to get out of fees when they are on personal travel. I'm not saying it's right, just saying that people do it....
That's actually FAA policy now, because the airlines WERE charging deploying individuals for excess baggage not too long ago, and the Feds/FAA put a stop to that.
The member doesn't need orders to have the baggage fee waived - just an ID card. To get the three bags (two at 70 lbs and one at 100 lbs) you need orders. But you can be on vacation and your ID card will cause the fee to disappear.
Yea! It is amazing that everything is coming together finally! I have been sweating it all for months. And it all is falling into place.
(I have to give a huge thanks to the TSgt at Luke AFB TMO office for an amazing job! He followed up and helped so much when the new computer system wouldn't work for me for 2 days, even my recruiter couldn't help. TSgt Hare went above and beyond. He jumped me into his schedule when I was near there, and even went out to the gate to get me since it is such a pain to get on base with no ID.)
So for those who follow us... there are a million other frustrations to come your way. They seem to be the norm, and it will all work out! :)
