I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

Published

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

Whoa!!! Let me first start off by sayiing congratulations to you all that have passed!!!! Woohoo!!!

Secondly, for those of you who are still waiting on your results, I feel your pain!!!!!!! I'm from Louisiana and I took my test Tuesday, the 12th. I was expecting my results in the mail today, but of course, they did not come. Most of my other classmates have already taken their tests have received theirs within 4-5 days. I've been soooo stressed out these past couple of days, oh my gosh!!! No sleep, can't eat, running to the bathroom, you know the rest...

I graduated on the 11th of December so I had plenty of time to study, and I did just that. But it seems like nothing could've prepared me for this test!! It seems like I could narrow it down to two, then I had to take an educated guess. I don't know what to think. I could swing either way!! But honestly, it seems like in school, even though I was an A-B student, if I had to take a guess on a question, I ALWAYS guessed wrong.

Soooo, as you can expect, I'm scared to death!!! My comp shut down after 85 questions, and of COURSE, my family (made up of a whole bunch of nurses) say I did fine. But I need those results/license in my hands!!

I will be so embarressed if I did fail, with my comp shutting off at 85 qs, b/c that probably means that I failed MISERABLY.....

Oh yeah, I had been anxious all day long to check my mail today (sat.) and they didn't come, right, now I learn that monday is Pres. Day, no mail!! Maybe I'll make it til tuesday. I'll let ya know!!!

Sorry fr being a drama queen,(I'm sooo not), I'm just venting....

Also, I'd like to add, even though I don't know if I passed yet, but for those of you who haven't taken it, don't stress yourself out trying to study 24 hours a day. Instead of doing a million nclex questions a week like I did for 6 months, I really wish I would've gone more over my notes and stuff that I had hi-lited throughout the course. I went over it some, but I feel now that I should have studied it more.

Seems that everyone has a test that is more focused on one thing, but just because you hear that a classmate or someone else's test focused on a particular subject doesn't mean that you should base studies or create more time for study on that subject. (I heard there was alot of pharm on a fellow student's test, so I devoted my time mainly to pharm. I got ONE, you hear me, ONE pharmacololgy question!!!!!! But I knew it!!) Odds are you may only have a few questions about that on your exam.

Just a hint.

I may need to be taking my own advice. Guess I'll find out in a couple of days!!

You haven't gotten any results yet? I am sure you passed. Did you get alot of math or drugs or select all that applies? I kow what you are going through it has not even been a week yet for me and I'm so tired of waiting. Let us know when you get the results. I heard it's like 3 wks and 4 days around there....

I got alot of drugs I never even heard of. I didn't get any math calulations, which I would have done good at because I know those. I got some culture questions which I had no idea so I just guessed. It seems like everything I studied was not on the test. It takes about 3-4 weeks to get results. I called the board last Friday and they said they were processing results for January 21st. Then I called yesterday, which was a week later and they told me they were processing January 21st. So I don't know when the results will be coming. Calif S**ks.

I didn't get any med calcs either! I hope that doesn't mean anything. I did get a lot of pharma questions that happened to be SATA so can you imagine how much random guessing I was doing?!!?!!?!

I too feel that I studied wrong for this exam. Before I went in, I thought I was so prepared. I think that even though I go over my notes and books from school that it would still be too hard for me to take the exam. I can't believe that people pass. I give those people props!!! I can't beleive the kind of questions that I got...

Sounds like California is kinda far behind on getting results out if they're still processing January 21st test scores...aye aye aye...

I don't know. When I was waiting for my application to be approve to test in the middle of December, I remember I called the board and they said they were processing November 27th, and I got my ATT letter that week. So who knows. I'm going to call the board next week and see what they say. Will let you know.

Does anyone took 205 questions and give them a good sign or does it indicate a bad sign? Please give me some relief here...

Hi, cantw82banars. I believe that the number of questions that your end with has nothing or little to do with what your results may be. I know how you feel--i, too, is till dealing with anxiety and fear. We're all here for you!
