I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

Well, I just took the NCLEX-PN for the second time today. First time I took 205 and this time I took 85. I felt very confident when I came out and now I am scared. I only had 2 math and like 4 or 5 meds that I had never heard of. Mostly select all that apply and priority. The waiting game begins. I'm here in Ca and I heard they are backed up with sending the results out and it's taking around 4 wks. Thats really sucks. I remembered 60 questions I had this time and last time my mind was a total blank. Out of the questions I did remembered I have found 4 that I missed. I hope 4 is not to many to miss. Well we will see. Anyone have any info on only taking 85 and how many you can miss. Anything that might ease my mind? Thanks.:crying2::uhoh21:

Okay, here's my rationale ... I am sure that 85 questions is definitely a good thing unless you are a complete moron. This is the logic. If your test cuts off at 85 and you fail, then basically the SBON is telling you that you could not improve your standing even if you got the next 120 questions right! And that is quite an assumption to make ... even for a computer! That is, if you didn't just satisfactorily fulfill the standard for a competent practitioner, which is why I'm hoping that my test shut off at 85 as well. By the way, I'm not sure how they post the info in Cali, but don't waste your money on the 'NCLEX quick results' scam that will cost you $8 to find out your score. Just log in to your SBON (where you got your app to test) and click on the 'verify practitioner's license' or something to that matter. It will ask you to specify the license type and ask for your first and last name. It is what ANY agency or prospective employer would do to verify your licensure and the state will post that info right away (due to the fact that they get the info immediately and they make you bite your nails and fingers down to the bone which is totally unnecessary in my humble opinion, being that it is all automated and travels at the speed of light), and it will show your license number. A friend told me this helpful information yesterday and I will be logging in tomorrow to find out. So, to all you Cali people, log into your board of nursing and find a tab that says something like 'verify practioner's license'. If that's not an option, then my condolences to you. Hang in there.

i just found out that i passed!!!! i guess feeling like you failed is a good sign after all. good luck to everyone else!!! :nurse:

I would suggest if you are really serious about becomig an lpn, to purchase an nclex book and get an early review. Start with the fundamentals, psych and do med surg and pharm last. I found that those that had a little knowledge (cna, ill family members) were somewhat ahead of the plan.

Now thinking back, I would review the nclex if I had known about it and gotten myself a little familiar with what was going to come before meonce I became a student. Read and answer the questions and rationale I think thi s will get you ahead of the game plan.:nurse: Best of luck:yeah:
