I just took the NCLEX - PN, my thoughts.

I feel like burning most the LVN review books I bought as they did me no good what-so-ever on the NCLEX. The questions I got came out of left field. Stuff that wasn't taught in school like post mordum care for jewish men and questions about the Buhdist faith. I couldn't believe the questions I got. It felt like I guessed at half the questions. What a terrible feeling I have now. I have went threw the ENTIRE Saunders LNV review book and cd TWICE, that's 6,000 questions, as well as the kaplan review book, "lvn made easy", and the mosby cd. Total review questions and rationales done exceeded 8,000. Yet it didn't help me at all. Yes I read the rationales for ALL the questions/ answers. The NCSBN.ORG review was the only thing that helped me as the questions were similar to the NCLEX.

The VAST majority of question were priority questions. I had learned all the tricks to answer these in the Kaplan book. Only one big problem....the priority questions in kaplan are a complete joke (very easy) compared to the actual NCLEX ones which were brutal.

My computer shut off at 85 and I am positive I got the 85th question wrong because I looked it up when I got home. I hear if the computer stops at 85 and you miss the last question ...you most likely failed if you weren't doing so hot. I wanted to throw up when I left the testing center.

So hear I sit and have to wait 3 weeks to get result in CA. I will start checking the LVN board website next week, but I have a bad feeling my name won't be up there and I will have to take the NCLEX again.

I just took NCLEX today and I feel the same way,it stopped at 85. I live in California so it will be a long time before i find out the results. I hope i will get the same response you did. Congratulations!

From the endless searching I did through all of these threads...tha majority of people who end at 85 questions PASS. I wish you all the best, how long will it take you to find out?

Everyone told me i failed b/ci stopped at 205 and i took the test twice taking 205 both times and i found out Saturday i did pass :) just have confidence and try your best to find a past time if you are waiting for results in cali :)

brneydk...congrats to you on passing!!

Wow cali is a long wait...and the waiting is the hardest part, I agree try to keep busy, busy, busy!!!

hello everyone!! i'm new to this, but just wanted to say congrats to everyone who passed the NCLEX PN!! i just graduated in dec '07 & just received my ATT. i just started preparing for the NCLEX & i'm planning on taking it in april. any helpful tips from the ones who passed? i've been reading saunders, NCLEX PN made easy & doing some practice questions from the saunders q&a book. i'm considering getting kaplan since i feel like u can never have enuff books to study for the NCLEX! also thinking about doing suzanne's plan.... but i'm trying to figure out what the best technique is since i've just been reading a little & doing practice questions. i feel like if i try to read EVERYTHING we covered in school i'll never finish studying! =P your input is appreciated! THANK YOU!!!

First of all, RELAX! You know more than you think. For me, it was far less stressful to eliminate the LEAST RIGHT ANSWERS. It sounds funny, but the way the questions are worded it was easier for me to do it that way than to try to pick out the "right" answer. REMEMBER these questions are looking for you best nursing judgement, of which you have plenty, though you may not be aware of it. Also, DON'T PANIC when the test ends and you are sure you failed. I don't know of ANYBODY who thought they passed when their test ended. That includes every nurse I've ever met. We all left confused, bewildered, and in a state of shock, CERTAIN we had failed. We all passed. All 26 of us. (Trust me, I networked to find out that we all made it!). Have faith in yourself, and remember: We all freaked too, but passed just the same.

I think my studying really helped me. I think it all depends on how you learn. I used the Sauders and a little bullets book. However, students I go to school with also used the some book and say it was a waste of time. The questions are very random though, that is for sure!

In MI we get our unofficial results in 2 business days and our MI liscense number online in 3 days. I feel so bad for those of you who have to wait weeks- I can imagine your torture!

I found that just answering lots an lots of nclex style questions helped. I really liked the on-line Kaplan questions. I bought them for about 100 dollars and the screen and questions are set up exactly like the NCLEX. Even if I wasn't sure exactly what the question was asking from doing so many questions I was able to eliminate at least 2 of the answers right away. I only has 3 weeks to prepare for the boards and made sure I did at least 50 - 100 questions per day. And as always remember your ABC's and Maslow's Hierarchy of needs as your answering each question, especially your prioritizing ones. Good luck to you and let us know how you make out!!:nurse:

Alright, I just came back from the NCLEX-PN that I took this morning. SWEET MOTHER, that was a mind bender!!! I agree that Saunders wasn't a very good help. It may have swung the vote on about 5 questions over all. There were tons of follow-up and priority questions which, considering the obvious nature of the ones in the book, were WAY too close between two of the answers to call. So, on those, I flipped an imaginary coin in my head and clicked the answer. My test cut off at 85 (which I was hoping for anyway because I thought I would have felt reassured that I 'impressed' the computer sufficiently) and, to my surprise, was not encouraged AT ALL! I usually have a pretty good feeling about whether I passed or failed on any other exam that I have ever taken, but, unbelievably, I have NO FLIPPING IDEA AT ALL! That test is CRAZY! Some subjects kept coming up which gives me the idea that I wasn't doing real hot at the beginning of the test; subjects like 'check all that apply' about universal precautions (which were a drag) and pharmacology patient teaching. Holy crap! The rest of the subjects I feel relatively confident about, but I am more anxious now AFTER the test than I was before. That's insane. Well, that's my two-cents on this board and any encouragement would sure be appreciated. Time to register with a username and password to the NCLEX quick results service. I can at least find out my results in 48 hours (for $7.95). Geez, I think I would literally kill someone if I had to wait three weeks. Then it would be a little more difficult to get that license I'm sure. :(

I know exactly how you feel. I took the NCLEX Monday morning at 8am in Michigan. I walked out asking myself exactly what happened in there. My test also cut off at 85 questions. I have less than 24hrs left, and I just pray that I passed because I do not want to go through all of this again. Good luck I hope you passed!

Good luck to you as well, Stina5812. My fingers are crossed for both of us. What a completely unnerving experience that was. One thing I can say for sure is that, on the questions that I was unsure of, I used my best nursing judgment which has proven to get me through the basic-training-style accelerated program this past couple of years with A's and B's (okay, honestly, I got a C in Pharm ... HEY, maybe someone tipped off the SBON about my C and they decided to punish me during my test ... hmmmm, just a thought). Do you think praying after-the-fact would be helpful? What the heck, I'll do it anyway!!!

i don't know if praying helps or not but i prayed before the test, during the test, and i've been praying ever since to pass...haha. i also did very well in my accelerated program, i graduated with a 3.78 and i will be so upset if i don't pass. it seemed like none of the books i had prepared me for the questions that they asked. it was hard to tell whether or not the questions got harder or easier. only 14hrs until i know my results, i don't know if i'll be able to sleep tonight. be sure to post on here when you find out!! good luck!
