I just got laid off from a healthcare job and dont know where to turn.

I dont know which way to turn. I was going to school to become an RN but I am no longer interested due to the way healthcare is becoming. I wouldnt even be interested in the job, I would just be chasing the money. I have been in school off and on for 6 years trying to be a RN. I have repeated several science classes because of getting C's and D's . and I am totally exhausted. My GPA is not where it should be to get into a BSN program so now I have to settle for ADN programs, which right now in NY is hard to get a job with an ADN.

I also dont want to do the ADN because I want to be done with school as soon as possible. I am 27 years old and I want to live my life. I am set to get married next year and u know how that goes...

Therefore I want to have something in place for when the next baby comes... I already have one kid.

What should I do ??? I was thinking of just getting a BA in something else health related. I dont even know if my heart is truly into nursing. I mean its taking me 6 years!!! Despite I had some issues along the way, I could have done better. Now I am beginning to feel like I am wasting time if i cant make it thru simple pre-req's.

I was working as a CNA for 7 years and just lost my job. So now I am trying to use my time wisely and just finish a degree in the next year or so. I already have so many college credits but just need to repeat a lot of classes to bring up my GPA for nursing school. What is your opinion??

Maybe I will do something else in health care but where to begin I dont know..

I feel like I have been chasing a dream for so long and at my wits end.....

Have you looked into HIT (health information technology) or EMR (electronic medical records)? These fields are exploding due to the legally mandated requirements for healthcare facilities to convert to electronic medical records.

Also look into the RHIA certification.

I have a friend who could not get into a RN program so she enrolled into a RHIA bachelors program. She loves it and she's making a really good living. We both started pre-reqs at the same time. Meanwhile, I'm still chugging along in my RN program and not looking forward to the dismal job market for RNs when I'm done..

Have you looked into becoming an EMT-B? You can knock out the classes for that certification in one semester. I would do that and then maybe just work for a while and re-visit your career choice...

If that is the way you feel then why even continue in any healthcare program. Use the credits you have towards a degree in something that interests you instead of trying to become a nurse. If you are unhappy with the way healthcare is becoming and you would not be interested in the job then don't take up space that another potential student could have. You should be enjoying your life, work and your education not dreading it. (not saying you have to be Sally Sunshine about life, work and school every hour of every day, but it should be somewhat enjoyable for you)

You could always try social work, business, psychology or even just a liberal arts degree.
