I was only 2 years into nursing when I realized 2 things.

1. I truly do want to help people and care about making a difference in their lives.

2. I hated people. I hated Nursing.

Very opposite things to realize about oneself I know. I changed my area of nursing from working in tele/medsurg to ICU..I did neurosurgical ICU and loved it...but I became burnt out.

I then went travel nursing to help get through my burn out and make some extra money and enjoy seeing new places. I loved that too...

But that burnt me out as well. There was only so many nightshifts I could work, and halls I could walk and stress I could handle whether I loved it or not...

it took a toll on my body, my anxiety, mentally, spiritually...

I decided I wanted to change. I also wanted freedom from the 12-hour long tasking shifts, and I wanted the freedom to make my own schedule.

I started my own business, and although its a journey...it was one worth taking. I was able to have the option to quit nursing or go PRN. I don't work as a nurse because I HAVE to. I do it because I enjoy it...and most importantly I can choose when I want to work because I'm PRN. AND WITHOUT THIS BURNOUT!

I also love what I do for my business.

Nursing is a growing and versatile field. There are so many options, and one worth exploring is nurse entrepreneurship. I told a couple of coworkers about the business I built and now I'm currently mentoring them on how to leave the 12-hour shift. In fact, one of them has already built her own business and is successful.

And I tell you this to bring hope for those of you who have the entrepreneurial spirit.

Don't think you will waste your RN degree. You can use that as a nurse consultant, you can use that in so many areas of business such as fitness, coaching, mentoring, blogging etc.

Don't Hesitate to make a positive change in your life...you only get to live this life once...

I've always said that nursing is a stepping stone but not the end of the road for me. Entrepreneurship is becoming more and more realistic for nurses all over. We possess a significant skill set that makes us valuable to the right audience.

I have tried to get out of Nursing but when I submit a 20+ year resume of Nursing, No one listens and acts like I cant carry a cup of coffee or clean a room, I understand I'd be making min.wage, but I've tried Home Depot anything no one is responding to my resume I inform them that I'm wanting a change, they agree but then No response, but hire someone who can barely read. thought it might be my age but the people they hire Instead of me are older. I'm going broke Volunteering, trying to get my foot in a door..

I was told when it comes to Home Depot, the “know someone” method worked for two people whose online applications were being ignored. Some of these places are next to impossible to get past the computer screen for anybody, much less an old nurse.

Have you tried, coding? Or Utilization review, I say this because your 20+ nursing would be an advantage, I know it is still healthcare but you could work from home, what do you think? Possible to show up and go in person?

I dont mind Health Care, I just want off the floor and as an AD, we are the worker Bee's, so yes that is a good Option, I've been traveling so many years I dont have an actual home, but can pick a location, I like be available to go on Crises for the gov. I've been to Africa and Puerto Rico and worked Katrina and really enjoyed the hands on. out of the Office, adrenaline rush. I've tried Red Cross, very few employees mostly Volunteers, same with Mercy Ships.

OK sounds like you like excitement but not the bedside LOL! I don’t blame you I admire that you reconized you needed a change and did it, well coding and the review job is very good but for you boring, you would like bartending !

LOL, Allergic to smoke and dont like drunks,,,but I do support Live Music,

I like medical just not the floor, even look into sterile processing but now days need a degree, I run these machines all the time when processor is out but to apply for the actual job need a degree. Thank you for your suggestions... ps
