I went on two interviews today and got both jobs! Both of them not knowing I took thier offers.........but now trying to decide which company to go with. One is well known PSA and the other is All Careing Nurses which I believe is just a small private one. The smaller one (which isn't small, just not a chain like the other) is offering me more money and benefits. PSA has no benefits and less money. I am totally new to home health and had no idea what to even ask in the interview. I already have a case that I can start next week, and the orientation I will be getting on the child will be from the family because they lost thier nurse and don't have one right now so the family has been careing for the child. I am a new LPN grad as of last year but went straight into med/surg so I could get all the experince and hands on. I feel a bit nervous but willing to do this! Any advice anyone can give me or thoughts I would appreciate. Meanwhile I will be searching this forum and reading all posts! LOL Thanks again, and here goes a new chapter in my life!

i've been an lpn for 40 years and i retired two years ago. i started part time in home health 6 months ago and love it. i feel like a nurse finally. it's great to have time for your pts. the only negative for me is that you can't depend on the income...at least where i am. one of my pts had to go into the hospital for two weeks so i didn't have that income. one went to a hospice facility and i lost that income also. now i have to find new cases.
Wow, see that was my fear because I am a single mom and we DEPEND on my check~! Not that no one else doesn't need the check, but if I miss one day of work WE will notice! I asked that question if I loose a case what happens and they said they would always have work for me as long as I am NOT picky and willing to drive some. I told them I would drive even an hour if need be to get a paycheck. :uhoh21:

Congrats :)
I am very partial to the well known company you mentioned. :) They do offer benefits, I beleive its a minimal amount deducted from your paycheck weekly.
Good luck in whichever choice you pick! you'll do great!

Congratulations !!!
Hi Meghan! Thank you! I asked PSA in the interview do they offer any benefits and they told me they do but I had to pay for it. I am sorry for saying the didn't offer ANY. To me when you have to pay for it, it means to me nothing. LOL Sorry. This other company will pay for 80% of medical, dental and vision benefits. Which to me was way better than me paying all of it. They sounded like a really good company but in the long run I would be ahead of the game if I went with the other company.

I hope you love whatever position you decide to take.
My problem with Home Health is I work for a small agency, and due to problems within the agency, we are not getting the patients we need to keep up our hours. Instead of 30 hours a week I was hired for, last week I got in only 12 hours.
Waaaaay too unpredictable for me - like you, I'm responsible for my bills and they don't understand fluctuating workloads. Just make sure you know what they mean by 'picky' and how far you may need to drive before accepting the job.
