I go to ITT-Tech...

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

So I am in the 3rd week of my second quarter at ITT-Tech in Phoenix. I am not going to lie, the first quarter nursing class is very boring and dry, but it is picking up a bit in this quarter. In our first quarter (11 weeks) we basically learned the history of nursing, the nursing process, and a brief intro to nursing diagnosis.

In the second quarter we have began doing labs. So far we have done mostly CNA stuff, which is fine.

I am basically just curious if this sounds somewhat similar to other schools. We only go 1 day a week (for nursing), for 4 hours. (we also have other classes like math, anatomy and physiolgy ect ect for a total of 3 classes a quarter, so 3 days a week in all)

I am also more then happy to answer any questions you have about the school.

PS. Just so you know, I am enjoying the program, I am just curious how other schools do things.

Thanks in advance!

I took the Hesi in May and you cannot bring calcolators with you. You have to leave everything up front in the room. There is a calculator on the computor for you to use. I hope this helps you question.

crazytmogirl and jrpena, thanks a bunch for your responses!

crazytmogirl, I'll be taking the HESI on June 1st. Thx!

hi all,

just thought to let everyone know. i changed my name to ma (which is what i am).

thx

kurdma :-)

Let me know how the HESI goes!

KurdMA, how did it go???

Hi,

For those who took or planning on to take the HESI, I wonder if you know if it is ok to bring a calculator w/ you?

Thx

Hey! I took the test a couple weeks ago and there is a calculator on the test! There are some boxes that come up where you type in the answer (no multiple choice!) so be ready to have to answer a few on your own!

What did everyone get on the Hesi? I took mine and scored a 86%, how is that ranking among other ITT students?

I got a 92% on it--but they had taken off the A&P questions, the chemistry, biology, and physics questions that they have used on the tests before this year!

Did yours have all the sciences on it?

Which campus did y'all took your HESI? because I had my test on 6/1 at the portland campus and they didn't tell me what was my score, they only said I passed. Also, they didn't allow me to use a calcalator besides the one on the computer. In addition, I had to take everything, science, math, chemistry, biology, reading, vocabulary, writing, A&P, you name it, it took me good 4hrs and it was approx 400 questions. 2 hrs into the exam, I was about to pass out. I am really upset that it is different at every campus, I thought this was a national deal. Anyhow... just thought to share my opinion :-)

I took mine in Phoenix a month ago but all the sciences were removed the night before I took it. The school got the call the day before I took the test informing them of the change and the acceptance pass number was moved from 70% to 75% and they showed me all my test scores about 15 minutes after I took the test. Maybe you should go back and ask to see them. You spent all that time studying and then taking the test the very least you should be able to know you scores. My scores were printed out and placed in my file. I am not going to school until March 2011 at ITT Tech so everything is just kept in my file until needed.

OK. I took mine today at the Portland campus. Kurd, they should have emailed you the scores today, because they only email them out after every 25 students pass the test and I was one of the last 3 needed to close that test group out. The other half of our group is going to have to wait for their results.

I had to take all of the sections, but they said that the science ones aren't being counted. I got 84% with the science included in my score, and 94% without the science portions!!! I'm actually pretty shocked that I did that well because I felt really stressed at the end. It took me 2.5 hours, but I pretty much guessed on the chem and bio. I have a degree in Biology but it's been a long time since I took those classes!

I really hope that my score is enough to get me in.

I agree that evidenced based practice is good. Evidence based decision making here is key. That's precisely why I'm presenting a large body of evidence from multiple sources rather than relying on one or two anecdotal experiences.

Here is the latest edition of PBS's Frontline documentary series entitled College Inc. covering the For Profit education industry:

FRONTLINE: college, inc.: watch the full program online | PBS

Frontline is possibly the most reputable documentary series out there. This episode is quite good. It is available for free viewing online or you can read the detail synopsis.

Interesting statistics about For Profit Schools and their students from the Department of Education:

  • Enroll 10% of post-secondary students
  • Receive ~25% of all federal financial aid
  • Account for 44% of student loan defaults within 3 years of graduation
  • 11% of For Profit's students default within 2 years
  • The majority of FP revenue comes from the federal government backed loans (86% in University of Phoenix's case)
  • Many accredited For Profit Schools only got their accreditation as a nonprofit and were later purchased by investors.
  • For Profits usually spend as much or more money on marketing than they do on actually educating their students

Because of all that:

  1. Regional accreditation commissions are becoming much more strict and are looking to revoke accreditation.
  2. The Obama administration is pushing policy and legislation that would cut off federal loans to students of schools which do not show good gainful employment rates that would justify the debt the students are being talked into taking on by the "enrollment counselors."

To which I say: GOOD!

From what I read the other day, MOST of the for-profit colleges are coming up on 90% (the limit). And they couldn't care less how much debt you end up with. The financial aid office at my public university tries to have their students graduate with as little debt as possible.

crazytmogirl, CONGRATS! I told you no need to stress ;-) I am very happy for you! I finally received an e-mail to view my score :-) I got 88% :-)

jrpena, Thanks a bunch for your response! I might wait until next year to start as well due to personal reasons.
