I go to ITT-Tech...

Published

So I am in the 3rd week of my second quarter at ITT-Tech in Phoenix. I am not going to lie, the first quarter nursing class is very boring and dry, but it is picking up a bit in this quarter. In our first quarter (11 weeks) we basically learned the history of nursing, the nursing process, and a brief intro to nursing diagnosis.

In the second quarter we have began doing labs. So far we have done mostly CNA stuff, which is fine.

I am basically just curious if this sounds somewhat similar to other schools. We only go 1 day a week (for nursing), for 4 hours. (we also have other classes like math, anatomy and physiolgy ect ect for a total of 3 classes a quarter, so 3 days a week in all)

I am also more then happy to answer any questions you have about the school.

PS. Just so you know, I am enjoying the program, I am just curious how other schools do things.

Thanks in advance!

Is it a 2 yr ADN program? How much is it costing you? How long has the program been in existence and what is their NCLEX pass rate?

Lots of questions I know.

I'm attending a public college for RN. After completing all pre-reqs the final year of the program is all nursing classes.

The nurse administrators and educators were I work do not think highly of ITT's nursing program and would not hire anyone from there. Also, ITT's credit will not transfer to regular colleges, so if you want to pursue a higher degree later, you will probably have to start from scratch. Just something to consider if you want to advance in your career later in life. You might want to contact the HR office or nursing administration office of some hospitals in your area to see how they view a nursing degree from ITT Tech.

I thought ITT Tech was a technological school? I didn't know it had a nursing program.

ITT Tech's nursing program just started within the last year or two. They asked our head of patient care services education department to endorse it and she would not.

People always talk about "transferring credits." That is such a funny thing to me...Who needs credits transferred? Maylisa, while you may not be able to "transfer" credits, other schools, such as university of phoenix" accept ITT's credits after you finish the program, and allow you to be able go on to get your BSN or Masters if you choose. People only need to transfer credits if they don't finish programs, or move, or something random.

It is a 2 year ADN program...actually i think its like 2 years and 11 weeks or something.

I promise there was no one more skeptical of ITT-Tech before paying out of pocket to go there. I promise you I have done my research, I have talked to hospitals, DON's and nursing students in other schools. I checked out Chamberlain, Pima, Apollo, Mesa Community College, this not is something I just went out and did.

My mother has been a CRNA for 30 years, and she literally had a page and a half of questions that she asked the director of the program.

ITT-Tech also has the most clinical hours of any school in the state of Arizona..I am not here saying it is the best program, but they have a 90% pass rate on the NCLEX, and its only 3 days a week so it works with my schedule, and no waiting list.

When we refer to transferring credits we mean within a public university system. I transferred credits from a public university in Georgia to a public community college in Florida. Every class I took in Georgia transferred towards my degree in Florida. If I'd gone to a private college then wanted to transfer to a public college most credits won't transfer.

The point we're making is that once you are in a private college you are pretty well stuck paying big money to continue your education with private colleges. University of Phoenix is very expensive, upwards of $1000 or more per class or more.

So, how much is ITT costing you? I'm curious.

I am interesting in going to ITT Tech in Phoenix. I am scheduled to take the Hesi exam in May. I am coming from San Diego to take it. I have alot of pre-reqs done but the wait lists are 4 years here and most schools just sign you up and you just wait the 4 years until it is your turn. I was wondering how hard the Hesi exam was. i have the study guide they recommended. I was told that after I take the exam I would know if I was in the program or not. I don't want to start until next March, I have to relocate and everything, but I just wanted to know how the school was from someone who was actually in the program already.

People also need to transfer credits when pursuing higher education. Many people who graduate with an ADN eventually want to attain more education.

For example, you say that you are in an ADN program. If you wanted to pursue a BSN or MSN at a state university with a cheaper tuition, your credits earned at ITT Tech will not transfer. The only places that will accept credits from ITT Tech are a few expensive private schools such as Univ. of Phoenix and Grand Canyon Univ.

Well to answer your original question...

The schedule that you're on does sound similar to the programs of other for-profit private schools.

At my school( a CC 5-semester ADN program), before we are even accepted into the program we are expected to have completed A&P, Psych, Sociology, Math, etc. After acceptance, we start nursing classes immediately. Classes are five days a week, including clinicals.

I've heard lots of negative things about schools like ITT Tech, and I've even experienced some of their shadiness. However, everyone has to do what is right for them.

So, best of wishes to you!

I started the brand new first nursing ITT program in tampa florida In Dec 2009 I agree the first quater was boring but now we are doing the cna stuff and actually getting into the field. I am already a LPN so it sucks that we couldnt get exempt from the CNA stuff but oh well and for all thoses people who say that ITT is a a joke listen an RN is an RN gimme a break! Its all about how u present your self , be confident, be safe eventually ITT will have its reputation built by us nurses not by what others think. The amount of homework we get is ridiculous but that is everywhere ....if you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.....lol

2008pn, so we started at the same time, so you know exactly what I am going through. I have 8 LPN's in my class right now...and they have told me that this program is exactly how their LPN program was. I put in my notice at my work, it is seriously just getting a bit overwhelming, and I didnt do so well on an A+P test haha. I still have 5 more weeks to boost the grade up. :)

good luck
