2008pn, so we started at the same time, so you know exactly what I am going through. I have 8 LPN's in my class right now...and they have told me that this program is exactly how their LPN program was. I put in my notice at my work, it is seriously just getting a bit overwhelming, and I didnt do so well on an A+P test haha. I still have 5 more weeks to boost the grade up. :)

Ya we should keep in touch, that would be cool. I have so many people in my class that complain so much, and it really bothers me. They dont seem to understand that nursing school is a ton of work, and a huge commitment. Im not completely quitting my job, just going down to 2 days a week, but I am definitely ready to quit all together if I need to. My parents have been paying out of pocket so far and will probably kill me if ever fail a class, haha.

How are your instructors? Mine are all pretty good, with the exception of my A+P teacher. (maybe its just because I hate that class though :) )

Im sure since its the same school the curriculm is the same as the one in louisville will be. I will complete my LPN in september and unfortnately, probably wont be able to bridge to my rn at the school i'm at now bc there rn program was just put on probation for a year. i want to go ahead and just get my rn. ive looked into other schools but they require me to have my lpn and I dont want to sit out and work for just 120 hours and then quit ya know? so how much does ITT tech cost? are you liking it? the schools in my area are competitive so i'm worried about the clinical sites they have lined up. i guess i really need to just call them up and talk to someone. pm me if you want and let me know! do they offer evening classes as well or does that take longer?

I started in dec I am already an LPN so I had credits that were transferable cost? it depends in florida it is $50,000 but I pay 1/2 that cause I didnt need pre-reqs which is what other schools are like here I like it so far I mean it still a lot of work and studying that must be done. You have to be really motivated to do this u know.

It doesn’t matter what school you attend, when you transfer, all credits do not transfer. For example, when I transferred from Purdue University to Indiana University for my first undergraduate degree, some of my Purdue credits did not transfer. Both are public schools. Also, someone mentioned that you would have to start all over…that’s not true. Why would anyone holding a Registered Nurse license have to start over in a BSN program? There are schools that offer RN to BSN programs. Of course each school has its’ own entrance requirements. Some require you to graduate from an NLN or CCNE accredited program while others simply want you to have an Associate’s degree and an unrestricted license. If you like the program, then you found a match for yourself.

To answer your original question, yes Fundamentals is a killer. I found it really dry. Now that I am completing Adult Health I, I find the courses more interesting. Good luck to you!

No school always accepts everything. However, if you go to ITT, virtually all schools will accept NOTHING.

Also, someone mentioned that you would have to start all over...that's not true. Why would anyone holding a Registered Nurse license have to start over in a BSN program? There are schools that offer RN to BSN programs. Of course each school has its' own entrance requirements. Some require you to graduate from an NLN or CCNE accredited program while others simply want you to have an Associate's degree and an unrestricted license.

You couldn't possibly be more wrong. Yes, your ADN will get you into many programs even if your program isn't NLN. HOWEVER, all BSN programs require you to have at least 120 credits. Most RN-BSN programs are 30ish credits. If NOTHING previous transfers, you'll need THREE YEARS OF SCHOOLING TO EARN THE BSN. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

For example, the nearest state university to me, the ITT ADN probably wouldn't pass muster as an acceptable ADN program. If it did, none of the 30 odd hours of prereqs would count. Same story for the city university. Same story for the non-profit private university. BOTTOM LINE, NO RESPECTED INSTITUTE OF HIGHER LEARNING ACCEPTS MUCH OF ANYTHING FROM A FOR PROFIT VOCATIONAL SCHOOL.

There's 3 types of schools out there:

Public non-profits (state schools and community colleges: eg University of California - Los Angeles, Johnson County Community College)

Private non-profits (privately endowed schools and Jesuit colleges: eg Stanford, MIT, Boston College, Georgetown University)

Private for-profits (private vocational schools: eg Devry, ITT-Tech, University of Phoenix)

Why won't most private for profits take any credits from others? It cuts into the profits so you can only transfer to schools with agreements.

Why won't most non-profits take any credits from for profit schools? There are about zero for profit private colleges that are well respected educational institutions. Why is this? Because people go to for profit schools because they cannot get into the cheaper but more competitive non-profits. Combine that with the willingness of for-profit schools to drop their academic standards in order to keep the money rolling, and those "hoity-toity" non-profits, who won't always accept everything from each other, want NOTHING to do with the for-profits.

In my opinion, this does NOT mean for-profit school always yield substandard education. Any student can go above and beyond at a for-profit and any student can do the bare minimum at a non-profit. However, the employers look at averages.

I graduated after a long enduring, and bitter, time at ITT. ITT pushes this "98% job placement, we find you jobs!!!" hook, and I was one who bit into it. The truth is they will give resumes to jobs they have "CONTRACTS" with...example...i ask "can you help me get a job in my home town at X place?" They reply with "No, we do not have a contract with them. How about a nice 8$ an hour job 3 hours away?". I was employed at Radioshack before, during, and after I graduated. One month after I graduated, I got a call AT WORK, from ITT. The woman asked "have you successfully gotten a job in your field of study?". I retort with "No ma'am, everywhere I have applied to seems to be ignoring me...". She replys with "You currently work at Radioshack correct? Are there computers there? " I reply with "Yes, there are computers here, and I have been here before I attended ITT." She says "Thank you, thats all I need to know!" and hangs up. 2 weeks later I get a letter in the mail from ITT. It is a congratulatory letter stating: We are happy to have helped you aquire a job in your field of study, we are proud of our 98% job placement

ITT has had their company headquarters and several campuses raided by the Feds, they've been sued by their investors, they've been sued by individual states, they are regularly sued by their students.

I'm sure you have studied about Evidence Based Practice in your school, whatever type of school it is. I would suggest that you use that same philosophy (basing decisions and statements on evidence, not heresay, personal feelings, and suppositions) when posting to a public forum. The person who stated the personal experience of transfering from Purdue seems to be the most accurate in the suggestions offered. While this is a public forum for your input and suggestions, you must always be careful of what you say about others (whether an individual person or an institution) so that it is not perceived as slanderous or defamatory when not based on facts. Your personal opinions about a school should be prefaced as that - your personal opinion.
