  1. I am graduating next month from my LPN and going right into my RN program. I am very interested in Addictions nursing and was wondering how I should get my foot in the door to do so? are there certifications out there? I dont really know too much about it. My interest in this field stems from me being a recovering alcoholic/addict myself. I am in AA and have been sober since January 2006. I just trying to figure out if this would be a good speciality for me. My main concern is this particular field hitting too close to home for me if that makes any sense?? any information is appreciated!!
  2. hey I dont think I got your email right so just email me whatever you wanna know. [email protected] the rn program as of right now is on probation due to pass rates. its gonna be like that until at least january I would assume. they are suppose to be getting a lawyer to get it overturned. that means that they arent admitting any new students for the rn program right now, but the lpn program is on full approval and has been for a long time. if you start the lpn program in june, then i'm sure the rn program will be fine by the time you start it.
  3. no she was already working at clark memorial as an lpn. she started working there as a CNA though. idk from what I hear the school has a lawyer and is trying to get the decision overturned. hopefully the rn program will be up and running by the first of the year. i planned on starting the RN program in january or march so i'm pretty positive that it should be up by then.
  4. how is everyone doing at itt tech so far? plz let me know because i'm considering looking in to it. they just started there rn program in my town. i'm getting my lpn at another school that is not offering an RN program right because its on probation (not good, i know, but the lpn program has been great so far. be done in september) how much does it cost?
  5. they just started in ITT tech RN program in my city and I'm curious as to how you all are doing and are liking the program. Im sure since its the same school the curriculm is the same as the one in louisville will be. I will complete my LPN in september and unfortnately, probably wont be able to bridge to my rn at the school i'm at now bc there rn program was just put on probation for a year. i want to go ahead and just get my rn. ive looked into other schools but they require me to have my lpn and I dont want to sit out and work for just 120 hours and then quit ya know? so how much does ITT tech cost? are you liking it? the schools in my area are competitive so i'm worried about the clinical sites they have lined up. i guess i really need to just call them up and talk to someone. pm me if you want and let me know! do they offer evening classes as well or does that take longer?
  6. I'm in nursing school too and I dont go to galen, but another school in town similar to galen. I know that galen is an accredited school but not thru the nursing organizations. I do know that if you are wanting to further your education past the ADN and go for your BSN, galen has an agreement with indiana weslyan where your credits will transfer into there BSN program. Indiana weslyan, from what I here, is a good school and they are accredited either thru the CCNE or nlnac (not sure if I got those abbreviations right lol). i'm looking into goin to galen for my rn because the lpn program Im in just recently got there RN program put on probation and they arent accepting any rn students for probably almost a year. good luck! galen is a good school. my sister went there for her lpn and her rn.
  7. oh btw...sullivan university is getting an rn-bsn program in the next year and a half or so. spencerian and sullivan are connected and owned by the same ppl so transferring credits will not be an issue
  8. i am a student in spencerian's LPN day program. the LPN program is good, but they are about to lose there RN program (even for good or for a few quarters) due to there pass rates. there are pros and con's to both schools (spencerian vs. galen) but all and all I have heard similar stories. I can only speak for spencerian and my experience, which has been that some shady things have been going on lately as far as what the "higher up's" are doing. exceptions are made for some and not others. I have a feeling that this situation will soon end because it all has to do with one student in particular who is about to graduate (which is scary to think about). as far as my experience has been so far, i have had good instructors and most all of them seem to care about the students. I dont know about the rn. I'm hoping the rn program stays or at least is back up by the time I get there. I graduate with my lpn in september so we will see. as far as hospitals not hiring spencerian grads, its not true. I know many rns from spencerian that work at nortons, jewish, frasier rehab, clark memorial, floyd memorial, etc...as well as many nursing homes if thats what your interested in. hope that helps.
  9. I am currently in my third quarter in the lpn program days and as far as teachers go, I cant really complain. except for 1 or 2, I have had good instructors. the rn program is about to go under though, which makes me sad because I wanted to go straight thru but may have to sit out, get my lpn, and go somewhere else. if you want to know the low down as to what is really goin on there though, email me privately.
  10. I am in nursing school right now and will receive my RN in about 1 1/2 years. I love geriatrics and it is where I want to work. eventually becoming a DON/ADON in LTC is something that I may be interested in. I was wondering if anyone oh here could give me some information as far as the educations and expereince requirements usually are to obtain a position like this.
  11. I have a question someone on this thread may have the answer to. I am getting ready to graduate with my LPN in june (not from Galen, but live in louisville). I know in order to apply and get accepted into galen's RN program, I will have to take my nclex-pn and be licensed since I did not attend galen for my LPN. Here is my question: do they require students to work a certain amount of hours with their LPN before applying to the RN program if they did not attend galen for their LPN?? just curious because I dont really want to sit out any longer then I have to so if I can get accepted with just passing my boards and doing my 120 hours, then thats what I want to do.
  12. you can purchase the ati books, online assessments, and cd's online at www.atitesting.com
  13. Ok so I'm in third quarter of nursing school and have to take my fundamental and OB ATI's at the end of this quarter. I was wondering if anyone past or present lpn students out there had to take ATI tests at your school? I know most schools around here do the hesi exams but my school hasnt switched over yet. they are suppose to in the next year or so. I took mental health ATI last quarter, but mental health comes easy to me. I was wondering if anyone out there has taken these exams and passed and if so, how did you study for them? they give us practice codes for the online practice tests, the ati books, and cd's, but was wondering if anyone did anything different? does the ati website offer any pracitce assessments that would have different questions on them other than the questions that are on the practice tests school has given me? sorry to be so long winded..this is my first break from studying since 5 this evening! thanks!
  14. I am interested in eventually becoming a geriatric nurse practitioner. Most ppl think I'm weird when I say this because hardly anyone in my class as the desire to work in a nursing home after graduating. I was curious as to whether or not a geriatric nurse practitoner can become one by just completing an adult nurse practitioners program or if it is a requirement to also post-masters certificate that specializes in geriatric patients?? anyone with any information would be great! I know that they have nurse practitioner programs that specialize in geriatrics, but there aren't any around where I live. just post-masters certificates.
  15. ok so I have check offs on central line dressing change and flushing a central line this week so anyone who can answer my question as soon as possible will really be helpful. ok so I know that when you are changing the cap on a central line it needs to be primed with normal saline beforehand and the new cap is in its own sterile package by itself. heres my question...when you are putting the new cap on, do you just pick it up with your hand and put it on or do you put the new cap on the normal saline syringe, prime it, leave the new cap it, and disconnect the syringe leaving the new cap on? im probably not saying this right and its probably confusing. if anyone can help, PLEASE it is much appreciated!!!
