I can not get into a nursing school and I am getting so freaken frustrated! I've applied to over 10 schools, and so far I have been getting rejection letters/emails. It is so depressing that I cry every single night, and I mean EVERY single night. Schools are constantly changing their requirements and it is getting so frustrating. First the school requires, TEAs 3, than TEAs 4, and now they want TEAs 5. Meanwhile, other schools want the skanky GRE. I've applied to community colleges, accelerating programs, and even private schools and still... no acceptance letter. I already have a bachelors degree in another field and an overall GPA of 3.1. I got a "B" in Anatomy. "B" in Physiology and an "A" in Microbiology. What am I doing wrong here? Can someone let me know what schools would accept me and does not require TEAs or a high TEAs score? I am willing to move out of State. Please let me know what schools are not so competitive in the US.
Thank you.
Booger.
My school only had about 120 applicants for 70 spots, but I was apparently on the bottom of the acceptance list with a 3.6 GPA (on ~10 core classes that they use for acceptance, my overall GPA was a 3.1 as well) and a 99th percentile TEAS score.
The school is Idaho State University if anybody happens to be interested.
Only keep applying if this is something you REALLY want to do and REALLY love. THe reason why I say this is that there are a lot of new grad RNs who can't find jobs. And a lot more people going into Nursing school because they think it is a recession proof job. There is no point in racking up $40K or more to not get a job afterwards. A lot of new grad RNs I knew were working retail jobs because of the lack of work. That being said, if it's what you really want to do, there are some study groups to help with testing and some school offer free testing review. Take lots of practice tests. Since you already have a bachelor's, you can also consider a Direct Entry Nursing Master's Program.
I think people need to realize that the old saying "You be anything you WANT to be" is not necessarily true. Just because one had dreamed of being a doctor since childhood and worked toward that, doesn't mean they will be admitted to medical school. It's the same with Nursing - schools are eliminating the old "waiting list" thing and taking those applicants with the most 'points.' Period. I don't know of one person in my old program who had anything less than all 'A's in their prerequisites and most had 3.4 and above GPA's. Many had Bachelor's in other subjects. In addition, most schools have time limits for the prerequisites (our school had a time limit for Physiology, and the school closest to us had a time limit for both Anatomy and Physiology); if the maximum amount of time has passed since you completed those courses, you must re-take them. And, if you spend $50,000 and go to one of those "West Coast University", or other Joe-blow type programs, you will NEVER get a job. Those schools are not respected in the field of Nursing.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but perhaps you should re-think your career path. Programs of Nursing are becoming increasingly difficult to enter.
I am sorry the fact that you so stress out. I would like you to go online and check out LAWRENCE MEMORIAL / REGIS COLLEGE you need a 3.0 GPA pre-req are alegra, biology and chemistry with lab. no teas. but it is almost 30.000$ to attend maybe less if you have credit already.
good luck and met me know your steps. stop crying.
