I finally got into Davita as an acute dialysis nurse after trying for over a year, but the pay is so low. I am wondering if it is worth doing it for the experience and then I can stay or move on. I have been an RN for 15 years having done med/surg/cardiac tele/OR/homecare. Is it normal for pay to be so low because of no dialysis experience? Thanks in advance for your responses!

I went into dialysis with no experience and the pay was actually high compared to what a floor nurse would make. 2-4 dollars per hour more.
How much lower is the pay than the typical in your area?

The pay stinks in Boston. I don't know how I'm managing.
$5/hr less then I made at my most recent hospital job in 2013

I just started with Davita Acute's. I am not sure what state you are in but in California the pay is lower. Davita pays time and a half after 8 hours and double time after 12 hours. Most hospitals in southern California it is straight time all 12 hours and no overtime allowed. The acute program I work for there is a lot of over time. So per day pay is actually is more money.

Do you mind stating the actual rate, or private messaging this to me! Im a little concern, I have an interview setup for next week with Davita and I too have no Dialysis experience but i've been a nurse for 10 years with Med/surg/tele/home health. I thought they would take that im not a "new grad" into consideration for pay.

I just got a second round of interview with the nurse manager and FA. They said it's not really an interview, but they want me to express my opinions, interests and feelings about dialysis and why I really wanna be there. she also asked that I sell myself. What should I expect?
I studied the Davita web site core values and made notes on them, this helped a lot because I was asked about most of them. I was also asked about my experience and then a lot of what would you do or how would you react to various situations. Good Luck!
where are you located?
I am in the upper midwest

I'm from the Midwest with 13 years experience in tele/er/pacu/l&d/meds surge with no dialysis experience and was offered a job for 29 an hour. Still less then what I make with my hospital but I work in a speciality hospital tho. The other hospitals in the surrounding areas don't make as much as I do.

It's the way that Davita does business. New grads get paid more than in the hospital so they, being new grads, think that the pay is great. Nurses with plenty of experience, but not in Dialysis will get the $28-$29/hour offer. It's not right but again that's how Davita does business.
