I feel so miserable, I did not pass nclex-rn

Published

I feel so miserable and disappointed, I failed nclex-rn with 265 questions. I used kaplan only to study, I thought it was good, I won't say it didn't help me. All my classmates who have taken the exam so far has pass. I feel so embarrassed. I have been crying the whole day. I don't know if I will have the same strength and energy I had the 1st time, to study for the 2nd time. Please, any advice on how or what resource to study, please any recommendation, because I really don't know what to do now. All I have being doing is crying.

Courage is what happens when your desire to make positive progress is greater than your fear of a negative setback. Courage is what happens when you look at those fears, listen to them, learn from them, use them to prepare, and then move boldly forward.

Courage is how problems are turned into opportunities. Courage is why some people are able to move the situation forward though there seems to be no hope.

Courage is when you do what you know is right, even if it is the more difficult and unpopular choice. Courage is something that builds new strength each time it is exercised.

Courage is not something that you must obtain or struggle to develop. Courage is a choice that can be yours the moment you decide to use it.

When the goal is worthy and filled with meaning, the courage to reach it will be there. When your sense of purpose is strong and clear, your courage will be too.

Courage is indeed a powerful way to live. And you can choose it every time.;)

Keep your head up!!! You'll get them next time!!

you will pass the next time. don't give up.. you are in my prayers honey. it will be okay. alot of people don't pass the first time .. the second time will be the charm. hang in there baby.

I am very sorry to hear it…

Keep your chin up b/c life doesn’t end here! You’ll get it 2nd time! You not the first one who didn’t pass and the last one.

Take a brake , relax and spent a few days to put your self together. There is nothing to be ashamed of. You got through nursing school and this means something. This is only temporary bump on your way, and you’ll overcome it next time.

Now, as far as review goes, continue with Kaplan b/c it's good for practicing priority Qs. Give yourself a time to go through the whole Sounder’s 3rd ed review book. The key to pass NCLEX is knowing the content b/c in order to get those hard priority Qs you have to be able to go through the easy Qs first, and those are usually knowledge based Qs.

The Sounder’s book is thick and may look overwhelming at the beginning but it covers 100% of the content that you’ll see on the NCLEX. It comes with CD and some people learn better while doing Qs, reading rationales and taking notes and than reviewing them 1-2 weeks b4 test.

I know there is Suzan’s plan posted on top of thread and it works for most of the people. So, you might want to do that. It based and focused on the Sounder’s 3rd ed.

Remember, only 89% of US graduates pass their NCLEX on the first try, so you not alone and certainly not a failure !

you will pass the next time!, i took my nclex @ hongkong stopped @75 and i passed. i combined Kaplan and Saunders comprehensive cd which i only bought in front of PRC.. lol.

Kaplan books will teach you what type of question you will see in the real exam, and that is, passing type of question which is analysis type. then in Saunders most of their questions are analysis type so you will be trained to answer analysis type. And you want the computer to stay in analysis type of question, which means you are in a passing level. Also when you take a review you will have an idea, you dont need memorize too many data that are simply recall and recognition, because these are failing questions and you dont want that to appear in the computer.

when you are in the exam, try to feel the questions, if you are sensing that the questions are not analysis type.. oh.. oh.. extra effort in answering because you are not in the right path

hope this helps spiny.gif

I am so sorry that you didn't pass the first time. I would consider purchasing the Helen Feuer Nursing Review CDs for NCLEX. They also have a pharmacology portion that is sold seperately. They explain things so well and make it so interesting that you remember things. I would listen to these CDs and answer questions. Best of luck to you.

Thanks all for your support. In Massachusetts, I have to wait for 45 days to retake the exam, and that will be in september. I have decided to start studying right away, using saunder 3rd edition and Kaplan. I will work on content area, then analysis and application. This time, I must make it. This site is wonderful, and I really appreciate all the support and advice I have received.:thankya::thankya: I feel much better now.

sorry to hear this and you have had some really good advice from everyone, You should get some ffeed back on where you made errors which will give you a good idea on where to study. Practice many questions as you can and review rationale on the ones you don't get so that you understand what you was missing

Good luck next time

NCLEX is such a crappy test. How horrible is it that no one feels that they passed it? It is a crap shoot to see if they will happen to ask you enough questions on material that you know. Give me a break. You already passed an acredited nursing program that is in itself the REAL accomplishment. You did your clinicals and studied and passed tests for

years and then that one stupidly designed test makes you feel like a failure. You are not the failure the test is!!!! Unfortunately, though it is a hurdle we all have to jump. Nobody gives a damn how many times you had to take it. They just count themselves lucky if they only had to do it once. I'm sorry that you are one of the unlucky ones that got stuck with too many of the unanswerable, stupidly written questions.

Please don't let it defeat you. Do the flippin thing again, do what you need to do to pass it and let go of the whole matter. It does not nor never will define you as the nurse you will be.

please keep in perspective that this is only a test. sure it’s a big one. but you are still here to take it again...if you passed the rn program and clinicals then you will pass this.... i did 200 questions a day. so you have 45 days left you can do 9000 questions...

I'm sorry...I still say that NCLEX is a crappy test that seems to have such an ego that it wants us to regurgitate the mess that they want to hear. It clearly does not assure the world that a compassionate and skillful nurse will be within the midst, it means that we can parrot their madness. I did pass it the first time with minimal questions, but I was totally bewildered when I walked out of there. I knew that I did all that I could do to pass. I took a month off of work and did over 8000 questions and if I didn't pass, I would NOT have had a clue on what I would have done to study yet, AGAIN, and pass. I was booked and questioned out...there was nothing more that I could have done. I was so angry that I even had to sit through such a fiasco. I also get very emotional when I read or hear of those that did put all that they could do and have failed.

I do believe that the OP and others have the ability to pass the test when they sit again, but it frustrates me to see someone have to face that torture again. I wish all that have to take it for the first time or repeat test takers the very best. I mean that from my heart. And, sorry for the vent...
