Hi, I'm a 23 year old who has just decided to become an LPN after a long period of uncertainty. I struggled with depression for years and even through I love working with people, you just don't want to bring your personal problems to work or school. So I took a little break from school to fully work on myself. Five years later, I'm back at and now I'm feel like I'm too old to be a LPN-RN student even through I have some prerequisites completed from my previous major. I just wanted to know if there are other ladies or males who started late like me and how has it been for you? And how did you get a entry level position in the healthcare field? Thanks!
Well just think like this, if you start now and get into nursing school you can be done at like 25/26? SO to have your career at 25 or 26 sounds good to me. Sounds a whole lot better to be 50 flippin burgers orworking some other menial and minimum wage job because you didnt want to go to school at 23 cause you thought you were too old?
Everyone has great advice here, please don't let age stop you from pursuing your dreams. Especially at age 23, you are just beginning. My sister recently finished her LPN at age 26, moved up north and is starting her LPN-RN bridge program this Fall. Many of the people whom I took my nursing prereqs with at my community college were 30-40+ and they knew age was just an excuse as well, not any real barrier. How old you are doesn't determine what kind of nurse you will be. You will do great if you set your mind to it
I will be 51 when I graduate this December. I've already had one successful career - at least until the economy imploded. Just make sure that YOU want this. It is hard work, but I made up my mind to spend the money and get it done. Doesn't hurt that I get bragging rights over my kids - nearly your age - for getting better grades than them :). Once you set your mind to completing a goal, don't let anything get in the way!

There are no guarantees in life. One thing is for sure, you will have bills and hopefully you will grow older. So I give you a cudos for moving forward and creating the life that you want. Because if you don't do it, it may just not happen. You could end up with no skill or a skill that you put up with because you gave up on your dream.
I finished nursing school at 51, and am about to start on my second career. Life just doesn't stop because you get older, but you can quit on yourself and then for sure it will stop for you.
