I feel like a bad mother

I have lupus/fibro and on of the things that happens alot is I get thrush very frequently. The other day my husband had bought me a mountain dew which I only took a few swigs of. My son found it and thought it was for him and he drank it. Now he has my thrush on top of the cold he already had. I feel so bad. My nystatin swish and swallow is almost gone but my thrush is not and his is even worse guess I will be calling doc for refill. BTW does anyone know can I send him to school with thrush?

I don't know about school, but can you/he use Gentian Violet? It cleared my (and my daughters) thrush alot faster than the nystatin did.

Angelbear - have you tried the acidophillus trick??? Take some acidophillus tablets (usually from the health food store) that does help. I do not know why but they have taken Gentian Violet off of the market here - heard a rumour it caused cancer or Barcoo rot or something.

My kids all got thrush when they were little and i went through all the gentian violet, swish stuff and nothing really did any good, just stained up a bunch of baby clothes. Get some yogurt with live cultures, but HAS to be LIVE cultures, it will say on the ingredient label (live active cultures). Depending on how old the child is, maybe a half of the container twice a day. It will do the trick believe me. I even gave my infant a couple baby spoons full of flavored yogurt without fruit of course when she was just a few months old. Took care of it in short order.

How old is your son? If he is real young, they may want him home(preschool age)because the kids share EVERYTHING. If he is told not to share drinks etc, I think he could go to school.

Don't feel like a bad mom. It was purely accidental. We all have foresight after the fact! I feel like a bad mom too at times, because I have an immune disease which causes me to be "not there" all the time. We do our best though, and our kids know we luv em.

He is 16 and MRDD we are doing the nystatin and yogurt thanks for the responses.

Diflucan works well but it has to be rx'd by a MD.
