I failed NCLEX again!!!!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi everyone,

I took my NCLEX-RN for the 2nd time and Failed. I took it last Monday 10/02/06 and no results on the website. I stopped at 101 or 102 but I know I failed for sure cuz it was getting hard then it got really easy at the end and it just shut off. I feel so sad cuz I had studied my little butt off. I did nearly 5000 questions and read the Saunder's book. I had never wanted anything so bad other than to be an RN. Nobody knew that I took the test other than my boyfriend who was really supportive. The really sad part is, my first test, I got 265 questions. I can't believe I did much worst the 2nd time around. It's really hard to pick up and start studying all over again. Most of my classmate passed and one girl was stressed out and wanted to quit nursing. I was thinking, I would do anything to pass. Thanks for listening and the support. Wishing everyone who is taking or already taken the NCLEX best wishes.

I know how you feel. I want RN behind my name so bad! I took the boards 3 times and failed... I am so burned out of studying I don't even want to pick up another book. I am in Oregon and you can take the boards every 46 days for 3 years... so am guess I will try again... but I sure am scared to sit for it again.. I hate to fail... I came this far.. all my friends are passing first time and they are all working... I was a patient care assistant for about 4 months.. it sucked because I went to school to be a nurse and I couldn't even work as one. I ended up taking my LPN and I passed that.. but I so desperetly want the RN... hang in there. I am feeling so depressed but you have to think, it is not the end of the world, and no one died... we can do this!

rafRN, I haven't used it AND tested yet. I am workig on it right now. Do you think the first time it was anxiety that got you rather than the knowledge and understanding you have then applying it to the NCLEX questions? The 2nd time around did you think about the first test while you were doing it and wonder about if you failed again? Positive statements and positive thoughts keep the mind more clear and allow you to concentrate on the test at that point and time.

Marivel ~ I am getting ready to test for the 3rd time as well. I had never been a CNA and had to in order to keep my job after failing the first time. I decided that for some reason at some point of my nursing career I am going to have to use that experience to get me through something and that it needs to be a learning experience. The 2nd time, I guess I am just not ready yet. I will be the 3rd time around because I have done my CNA job with even more a learning format.

Just a thought

I graduated a year ago last June. I ahve taken the boards 3 times.. and I have a scheduled date. But I am having a hard time studying.. I can't get myself to do it again.. what is Suzane's study schedule everyone is talking about... I do have high anxiety... but most of all I know I will fail again.. then what another career, but I really want to be a nurse... I feel so guilty doing anything, because I know I should be studying... any ideas???

With Suzanne's plan, what you first need to do is follow the sticky at the top of this forum that says "First tip of my new study guide." You have to follow it exactly. Then after you're done, PM Suzanne (Suzanne4) your email address and she will send you her plan via email. Good luck!

So nursing 28.. how did you prepare? What books did you use? Did you use suzannes guide?

Positive thoughts Marivel!!! Practice saying, "I know this stuff! I can pass this thing! After all, I did make it through nursing school so I can make it through this!" Then get yourself excited about studying again. Tell youself "this is only a few short weeks (or months) of my life and then I will have obtained my goal with all the hard work I put into it and be able to live my life as I please. What a great nurse I will be! I can do this! Say it and MEAN it! You HAVE to!!!!"

Good luck and I'll be thinking about you.

hi rags,u know what?the first time i took the nclex, honestly, i wasnt prepared.coz dis was the tym wherein im hooked on finding nclex reviewer.there are a lot of suggestions from friends and others who took the exam til i get confused wat t0o use or study until the a couple of weeks before my exam i end up really blank!i have no direction with regards to mystudy.then the second time,i did everything and learned from my mistakes during the first take.I was really prepared unlike with d first and i know i'm going to pass even if my comp stopped at 265 i was confident i will make it but unfortunately it did'nt.Now,i dont wanna rash things and i'll give it a try suzanne's study plan.Maybe it's not time yet!

Hi luvtoshopp85,

What I did different second time was I studied Saunder's CD. I did not use Suzanne's plan. I just did over 5000 questions and took notes along the way. Then I did only Kaplan question trainer 6 & 7. After all that, I just reviewed my notes over and over. Stop studying 3 days prior to the exam. Went out, did my hair and spent time w/boyfriend. Test day comes, and I was nervous. Boyfriend calmed me down (thank god) and went in there, sat down, threw me my first OB question (hate OB), thought for a moment, and aswered the question. Did not change my answer (I did that a lot first time around)....I was confident second time around. Most importantly i was FOCUSED. You have to understand what NCLEX is asking..........

hi nursing28,

I think u gave me an idea of what to do.I was thinking twice if i wud use suzanne's plan since i reviewed already the whole saunders during my first take which is the first step of suzanne .i find a hard time again to go back. What i'm doing now is using the saunders CD then i stop coz'i saw suzanne's plan. Thanks for sharing what u did.Hope it'll work with me since it's my third time gosh......Am i taking masteral!!!!!!!!!!!hehehe

Hi rafRN,

When taking NCLEX, you MUST find out what the question is asking you. Are you going to assess or implememnt.....Those questions "you have four phone messages, who will you call first"....those are hard and just narrow it down to two answers then find out which on is the MOST unstable...(that is where you need to know your content)...elimination process is the best way to go on this monster test. If you come across 2 simlar answers, eliminate them......I did that most of the way through NCLEX.....good luck

hi nursing28,

gosh!...all those u've mentioned, are questions that came out wen i took the exam last sept 22,2006.Most especially the question that u have 4 phone messages gosh it keeps on coming back but of course with different pt's.and wen it keeps on appearing i know i answered wrong because it's hard to eliminate most especially if u see 2 similar answers. The first time i took it i stopped at 86 then the second time i stopped at 265.Yah,ur ryt this is a really a monster test heheheh......

When you have two simliar answers, elminate both of them......then you are left with 2 answers left. Okay....so use your ABC's whenever possible. Don't just memorize the content but understand it. For example: Pt JUST had a biopsy. One of the complication of this procedure is HEMORRHAGE. In knowing that, they can bleed out and go into shock right? If NCLEX ever ask you this but does not list the word "Hemorrhage" then you must know the s/s of shock. ---->>>>> increased pulse, decrease b/p, increased resp.---->>> all theses s/s indicates shock. This is where you take all your information that you studied and choose the one that indicates shock. I might be confusing you. Sorry...Anyhow, this is how I prepared myself....I always ask myself "okay pt has so and so DX, what are the s/s, what med's are they taking, what are the side effects of this med, and what intervention I need to do. Sounds a lot but truly rewarding at the end. Even though I pass the test, I still study like if I am taking the NCLEX again. I know, sounds crazy but I want to be a good nurse.
