I FAILED!!! and i feel so bad!!

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

After waiting for 72 hrs I just found out yesterday morning that I failed. All along I thought i have pass. I dont know what went wrong. I did my best I took kaplan classroom course for 3 mos, i finished saunders, im always getting good grades on my test drills and yet i failed. This is my first time for NCLEX-RN but i feel so bad. Next year i will already move to NY i just thought I will have a new career as I move their. But im still positive I will take the test again, im just waiting for the NYS educ evaluation form so i will know what went wrong.

Now, i just really dont know where to start again? Coz i devoted most of my time studying and just to find out that I fail really makes me sad. Pls can anyone help me start all over again?

For the thread that I post before that I stopped at 75 since its closed already i will just post it here.

Yes, I will take the test again and will just need to prepare myself emotionally and mentally and I will now use Suzanne's plan though I will still call kaplan and see what they can do (since I heard from my classmates that many failed).

Regarding the retrogression, I don't have any worries with it since I have a different visa and will already move to NY next year.:nuke:

If you have the right visa why not come to the USA now to practice the language? You could get a medically related position to see how nurses practice. Unit Secretary, admissions, working in a MD office would give you great exposure.

Specializes in Sub-Acute care unit, geriatrics.

To answer your questions, I will migrate to US next year because my petition is on process now so I can't leave my country without the proper documentation coz i will be there legally and not just a tourist. I am not planning to work right away since i still have a good financial support from my family for my test. Language is not a problem to me as well, i came from a good school with good training. I just graduated last year from nursing school with my BSN degree and passed my RN here in the Philippines last Dec 2007 so if you will see I have never been exposed to the area after I graduated coz my parents wanted me to finished all my licensure exams first. And as far as I know NCLEX-RN is an entry level test so exposure to the area will not really be a big help.( Just my point of view regarding the test). Thanks anyways.:)

Since you failed the NCLEX you obviously need to learn the Amercian way of nursing. Being in a US hospital would give you first hand experience observing the role of the RN.Jobs are very tight in the USA, so the more you experience and networking you do the better change you have for a position. You are very fortunate not to worry about finances most of my students would have to take another job since they can not afford to be unemployable to take the NCLEX alone.

I understand that. For now, I just want take everything slowly. I am aware that working and living there is not easy coz there will be a big adjustment for me. My bf's mom who is an american and an RN for a long time is helping me to be familiar with the environment in the area as well as my bf who works in the hospital, while I am still here. My family in the US are my support system (emotionally and mentally) who are supporting me that I can do this. I know that it is not easy to get a job and pass the NCLEX-RN but with hardwork, determination and God's blessing. Everyone can pass the test whether or not you studied or living in the US. Though there is a low perecentage for foreign students, i still am not losing hope.

Like what my bf's mom says, "If you fail the test it doesnt mean that you are not competent to be a nurse."

There are people like me who are not good test taker. But I know in my heart that I can be a good nurse coz I really want to be in this profession. It just happens that I will migrate in US so I really need to take the NCLEX to continue the profession that I chose there. Let's be positive and help one another. Everyone is aware that life in US is not easy. I guess, all the foreign students who failed the test needs support and guidance and not discouragement. Thanks!:nuke:

Glad to see I'm not the only new one at this. I am trying to figure it out. I read the sticky and bought the book today. I have not rescheduled for my test b/c I took it on the 10th of Nov. with 245 questions and failed so I have to wait a little while before I can sign up and most of all I want to make sure that I am ready. Good Luck to you!!!

Goodluck to you as well Ijw04. I know you can do that. Im still taking my time before I start studying again. Holidays are coming so I want to enjoy it first and maybe on new year i will start again.:nuke: Godbless!

As a nurse educator I can tell you the longer you wait after graduation the odds of failing increase (at least for American Trained RN). Suzanne has a better pulse on this, but I would guess once completing a training program I would assume the sooner you take the test the better score you will obtain.

The reason why one does clinical is to observe, listening to another person's second hand experience is the same. As an educator we try to get students to watch a variety of different nurses. Refering the NCLEX to a clinical situation you have observed will help you improve your scores.

This is why theory and clinicals are done concurrently.

Yes, take time to become grounded. But my feeling as a nurse educator is to get the student back on the saddle ASAP, it makes for better student outcomes.

Ok i understand that Alex thanks. Hmm, this one made me think of what to do now. But I will still try my best for this test. I really appreciate all your help and advice.:)

Specializes in ICU, PACU, MedSurg.

Don't fret. You will get through this test. I have failed now three times and most of my classmates have passed. I feel like a complete failure but have come to terms with my strugggles with the testing process. You will get through it but can not give up.

Hello,

I am so sorry to hear about your test results, you will pass the next time, stay focused and positive, and next time, just relax a little more and breathe.:yeah:

I failed twice too, and I did take a little break to regroup. Sorry to hear and its not the end of the world. I believe we can do this. My problem is I dont want to be doing too much things at one time, I am doing Learning Extension and it seems to be ok, but in my gut feeling I feel like I should try Suzannes program, but I dont seem to understand how to access stuff like her pm box and to post so many posts. I want to be able to do it as well, but is it going to be too much! Anyway, again sorry to hear and together we shall succeed!

You will not have access to sending pms until you have 15 posts. You do need to complete the first tip as set out in her sticky found on the main NCLEX forum page.
