I am completely bummed out right now

Students Pre-Nursing

I had planned on taking A+P II over the summer....so it would be done and over with when I applied for the nursing program this fall for Spring 2006 acceptance. You don't HAVE to have A+P II finished ( but it's better) you DO have to be enrolled by fall to apply.

Well I just got the summer course schedule and there is *no way* on earth I can take A+P II over the summer. It runs M-Thurs from 9:00 am- 2:20 pm. My younger son doesn't go to school until noon and there is *no* before school care for K students. I checked into the going rates for a babysitter for 4 days a week for 3 hours..and OUCH. Plus, I'd have to hire someone I don't know and I am really uncomfortable with that :(. Then once they are out of school I am looking at camp for BOTH kids 4 days a week- the price is INSANE!. Even though it'd only be for 7 weeks it's still wayyyyyyyyy more than I can afford.

So, looks like I will have to put A+P II off until the fall. I am hoping that with my 4.0 I will still get accepted even though I am just " currently enrolled" and not " done" with it. Of course, that screws me up because I wanted to take MICRO in the fall alone...now I will have to take that with A+P II.

Sorry things are not working out as you planned. Have you thought of taking it online. They have the virtual lab with it also. My husband is doing it now and it is so convenient for him. He loves it. Just a thought ;)

Right now my school doesn't have A+P II up as a summer online course. Only A+P I ....I'm desperately hoping they add a II but as of right now there isn't one.

You can take the online class ANYWHERE. It doesn't have to be from your school. Then you can just add that transcript to your application when you apply to nursing school. If you Google on "Anatomy and Physiology online classes" or "Online classes for nursing", I'm sure there are classes you can take. Good luck.

The other thing to consider, if you knew that taking the A&P course this summer was the one thing that gave you the edge to get into nursing school over someone else, would that be important enough for you to find a way to take it this summer? I understand about the financial situation but perhaps you can find someone who has another kid in the class and would be willing to look after your kid during that short period of time. Then in return you could look after their kid with yours later on in the summer. Or perhaps there is a nearby relative who could take care of your child in the mornings. Do you belong to a neighborhood child coop or is there one around your neighborhood?

Think about the time value of money and OPPORTUNITY. If it's not worth for you to take A&P this summer, then you'll need to be really focused to take A&P II and Micro in the fall. I took A&P I and Micro at the same time; it was 4 nights a week for me with 2 labs until 10pm at night, but I studied my butt off and got A's in both.

Hopefully, you can get into both classes in the fall. That was the problem at my school. There were so many students trying to get into those classes, that they had to wait another quarter/semester to get in!

Decide what's most important for you. Good luck.

Hi, I'm in the same boat as you! I started A&P II and had to drop when I became pregnant with my daughter. I couldn't get into the course for SP '06 because it was closed and most of the community colleges in my area are forcing students to sign up as matriculated instead of non-matric because most pre-nursing students aren't interested in attending their school so that they can get your $$$$ and lock you in.

I appreciate all the thoughts.

I have looked into some other online courses. I need to make sure that it will be considered an OK transfer as most of them aren't following the same pattern as my school. Some of them don't even have some of the systems in their A+P II's as I would have at my school. Also, cost IS a huge factor considering I have a scholarship from my school. I am really hoping and praying they add a A+P II summer online course. Of course, my school has childcare for $20 a day...which is a bargain BUT it's only for toddlers *sigh*. It's always something eh? As for family...closest family is another state away. Most of the moms around here use summer camps for their kids as well...not too many at home parents here. Camp would cost me $300 a week for 2 kids...not possible on my income( and that's at a YMCA WITH help!- argh!)

If I have to take A+P II and Micro at the same time I will. I didn't want to but life doesn't always work out that way or so it seems.

I plan on taking both of these at the same time during the summer just to have all my non-nursing courses out of the way before applying. I hope I can do it, but I understand you not wanting to do it.

Our Micro is a 10 week course, with the A&P II only offered the second summer session (the last 5 weeks of the 10).

So, I figure, if I think I can't handle them both, I'll drop the A&P II before it even starts, and concentrate on the micro. Then I'll have all but one non-nursing course completed when I apply, but it's better than doing poorly on one or both.

Good luck to you, whatever happens! :)
