i graduated in may of 2010. the first time i took the nclex was in july , 2010 then again in april. the first time i had 91 questions i had no idea, my problem was memorizing not learning application skills. i failed. the second time i tested i got my kaplan book out along w/question in the bank. this time i took the test it made sense to me. i had a lot of sata. i had everything but that i mean audio, hot spot, priority, meds....u name it i had 151 questions! this time unlike the 1st time i only scored low on 1 area (reduction of risk potential). its its own category when they sent u ur results. so i compared the two papers and i did way better this time, and it was a harder test the new nclex-pn! im gonna see what im doing wrong. b/c i am so closed yet so far. i will not give up. whats bothering me is that after u submit ur application after 3 yrs if u dont pass u have to go back to school. and i did my application may 2010 so i only have til next year!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is the state of il btw. please guys i beg you any advice? almost everybody in my class is working as nurses. i'm still doing cna work, not that i hate it, but i went to school to be a nurse! everything has come hard to me....but i refuse to believe i cant pass this test. god please help me! if u guys have any books u study that helped? i just feel like a loser i am so embarressed when people/friends ask me are u a nurse? i just wanna cry. a dissapointment to my family also they expect me to do better and look at me...guys i really really would appreciate any advice i am really giving up on being a nurse i been depressed i hate knowing that i went to school and nothing i heard good people come to this website and help others. i will thank everyone of u that does help me in any way. this is what is stopping me from reaching everything i cant do nothing.....w/o a license w/o passing the this test....so please this is my last resort

I did a lot of practice questions from a Saunders NCLEX prep book but I'm not sure what the name is anymore. It came with a CD with 5,000 practice questions that I made a lot of use of.

I am sorry that you are having a hard time. I know that you feel depressed and embarrassed; I know it is easy to say, don't be; but honestly don't; maybe part of your not passing is you feel inadequate and add that to the pressure of actually taking the test; then there is more pressure and it might cloud your test taking skills. Always pray to the Lord to give you wisdom as you are studying and taking the test.
Maybe this time before you take the nclex test; maybe you should get a reviewer and review you concepts again. Review from the beginning; funda, med-surg, ob, peds, psych and pharma. Get a reviewer that has the topics and quick review; as you are reviewing the concepts take the practice test after. when you are done reviewing the concepts then do nclex practice questions from other reviewers too.
There are a lot ofreviewers that have the concepts first before the practice test; the one that I used were prentice hall and NSNA. Although they are basically for RN's but I just used the concepts on the reviewers and did the practice test on PN reviewers. I hope this helps you :). Good luck and don't forget to pray

I took the NCLEX-PN in 2007. I used online NCLEX study tools/questions to study.... they really helped. I passed the first time w/ 75 questions. Good luck to you!
Thanks nursezoe! I am just desperate i dont kno if i was even meant to be a nurse anymore..... Ugh I am gonna pray then hopefully God helps me!
hello everyone,, let me start by saying thank you for taking the time to read my post! my name is la'monique i graduated from the lpn program last may of 2010. since then i have taken the nclex-pn not once, not twice, but 6 times. the first post i posted i was emberrased to say how many times i had taken it. i feel like a loser everytime i get up. i know deep inside i know i would be a good nurse. since i was a little girl i wanted to help people. i really enjoy working with people. but every time i got that fail result, i would just cry. i have tried everything! i talked to people who have passed the nclex and tell me never to stop believing in god or to lose faith. i never lost faith in god he is above everything and everyone of us. god knows how much i :redbeathe nursing!!! that upsets me in a way b/c all i ever want to do is be a nurse. i went to school, i graduated from the lpn program guys....why cant i pass like the rest of my classmates? i really really hope i can pass this time. this test is whats stopping me from reaching my goal of becoming a nurse.....which i hate to say but sometimes i cry myself to sleep and i ask god...i want to be a nurse why cant i be a nurse? its very depressing at times. i just want to give up. but i refuse to lose my dream. and like i mention on my previous post i only have one more year to make it happen so please please please i beg u (anybody) please....this is all i ever wanted. i tried everything. guys what do u sugguest?
on my last nclex that i took in may of 2011 (new nclex-pn) i scored better then all my other ones except on one category that was reduction of risk potential (its its own category out of 8 different ones i believe.)
so that tells me the previous times i tested i did worse and it was an easier test. the last one i took which was the 2011 new version where they raised the standards i performed much better just one section was low. so with that being said what do u guys sugguest?
if you have taken the new nclex-pn (not rn, but pn) what tips/advice would u give me and what books did u study?
also if u taken the new nclex-pn and failed previous times why do u think u passed this time around?
honestly guys any information/feedback u give me i will thank you!!! its just been a very frustrating road to success. and if u can give me any tips just anything it would be greatly thanked!
and not b/c its just me, but remember guys everything good that u do in this world god sees and rewards u for everything that u do. god bless you! la'monique

If you say you are a good nurse, then you must mean that you are knowledgeable and can safely practise as a nurse. Therefore it leads me to assume that your problem lies in how to answer multiple choice questions and not about a lack of knowledge.
When you read a multiple question, instead of trying to figure out what is the correct answer....first delete the options that you are sure are the incorrect answers. Therefore if there is a multiple choice of A, B, C, D, and
E 'all of the above' and you know for sure that A and B are wrong. Then obviously E 'all of the above is wrong' and that leaves you with C or D....so you have narrowed down your choices of which is the correct answer to a 50/50 chance. From there you can then start to think about what you've studied and which one is the correct answer. And statistically your chances have gone from one out of 5 for getting the correct answer to a 50/50 chance.
Yes u are correct, I have trouble chosing the BEST answer. Does that make sense? I know my information, did u do Nclex-PN?

have you taken any review courses?? I know for NCLEX-RN they offer things like Kaplan or ATI.
I took Kaplan and passed my first time (NCLEX-RN). So if they offer review courses i would highly suggest it.
You can ask around at local colleges.
I'm pretty sure Kaplan has a PN review course. These can also be taken online. $400, but worth it. If you fail, you get your money back.

How long do you have to pass the test? Maybe a bit of time to not worry about it would help (I know you'll still worry- but a break might not be a bad idea:)). Give yourself some room to breathe, and study in small bits. Try to break it up, so it's not so overwhelming... being stressed can really mess up confidence, and make you more likely to second guess things :)
