hi everyone i had posted a thread a while back well let me tell u what my problem is ....this is my first semester in nursing school and iam not going to lie its been difficult for me ,, trying to find a way to study that works for me and getting used to the nclex style testing .... well it turns out that i have a 74 average on my foundations class i need a 84 on next test( fluids and electrolytes) and a 78 on final and a 69 min on the nln... to pass the class with a 75 average...everyone tells me that our next test is the hardest and i been looking at the material and its tough but i think i can manage but its just a lot of pressure to know that i need at least a 84 .... these are my options , forgot to mention that on pharm i have a 69 average
1) withdraw all my classes except pharm , concentrate on that class try to pass it ,,, then write a letter to the school board telling them what went wrong and what i will do different if they let me back in then come back fall 2010. without having to compete for the spot again.
2) try my hardest to get the grade i need for foundations and try to pass the other class too , if i fail foundations and not pharm i need to compete once again for a spot in the program and we know how competitive that is and write a letter as well.
3) concentrate on foundations and just let the other class go ... i will sit out spring and come back in the fall to start level 2 and would take harm this summer.
please give me ur opinion bc i dont think i am even thinking clear anymore
i need to make up my mind by next friday

chill it... taker a good nap, a shower, and got get some coffee and get the book:
FUNDAMENTALS: REVIEW and RATIONALES!!!!
then, you sit down answer a whole load of them and READ THE RATIONALES, and then you take a break, breath and do the same thing again...
then... you go ahead and give your self a break for something you like, eat what you want, and go back to it....
... the thing is the more you answer those questions the more you get used to them, and i know how you feel, i have been there on your spot!!!
so relax, and pay attention your focus should be foundations and pharmacology...
the only way for you to get used to this, is by repeating, and answering question after question after questions...
i am from another country, so fundamentals was hard to me because of all that talk, interpretation, touchy feely tipe of thing...
but... hang in there, and if you need help come to us girl!!!
you have got this far, you can get passed it!!!! you deserve it!!! i believe in you (pet in the back)!!!
Thank you !

We can't make this decision for you, you are the only one who knows the full story and the dynamics of the problem. I will offer you these strategies that worked for me. Before you or others, think I'm being a "pompus ass" I will tell you my story includes a revelation of testing anxiety and a failure of my 3rd semester.
#1- Do you have a Saunders Review? If so look at the beginning of the book, there are test taking strategies (Chapter 5 of the 4th Ed). Learn them, know them.
#2- Is it possible you are "over studying"? I found it was better for me to limit my studying to 2-3 hours 4-6 days per week rather than 6-8+ hours 7 days per week. This forced me to focus on the syllabus that the instructor took the time to put together, rather than something I found more interesting and only served to confuse me at test time.
#3- On test day DO NOT STUDY, by then you know it or you don't and by trying to cram at the last minute you will just confuse facts. On test day my routine was to get to school early, listen to some CALMING-RELAXING music, concentrate on breathing (long and slow), review my Saunders' strategies, close my eyes and go to the beach or some other favorite spot in my mind. Stay away from others with their "Did you study ...?" "What is this ...?" chatter and their testing anxieties. Go into class at the last minute and resume your vacation until the test is passed out.
#4- Take your time to thoroughly read the questions and ALL OF THE CHOICES, rule them out one by one. Stay calm, if you feel the stress creeping back in close your eyes and breath slowly and deeply.
