I’ve been feeling really depressed all because I can’t find a job I like- maybe it’s not the jobs but me. But I can’t figure out what is the issue. I graduated a year ago and 3 months ago. I took a job in Ltc they told me the ratio was 28 got there it was 36. I sent the DON a email that I wasn’t coming back during orientation. Started at another Ltc I liked this one stayed here PRN. Started ped homecare I was trained two days, it was horrible, area wasn’t safe and mom had people coming in and out. After I didn’t pick up anymore shifts. I then accepted a full time substance abuse position. After a year, the work environment became too toxic, had a dominant lead nurse who would tell patients she was the better nurse and only she could save them. Management let her do as she pleased. Now I’m at another substance abuse job but it’s totally different. I’m making mistakes and I feel people are looking at me like I’m incompetent. Overall, I don’t think I ever loved substance abuse. I feel like it was stupid to take this new job, I started March and not getting their system. Upon hiring, they told us they don’t accept two weeks notices and when we want to put one in they will tell us to leave. But how is that fair to leave other employees stuck? I’ve been trying to figure out what I like and I like less stressful environments, some hands on, geriatrics, I ❤️ hospice but need 1 year of hospital experience, I’m an LPN getting ready to bridge for my RN soon. I just feel like I’m not made to be a nurse. Any advice and those who have been a nurse for a while did you go through this?

Then why don’t you go back here until you get through school? Becoming an RN will open up a lot more opportunities. Plus you said you love hospice so get your RN, work for a year in the hospital and then get a hospice job. The things you didn’t like (high ratios, not feeling safe, toxic managers, etc) is completely understandable. All nursing jobs have some type of stress but I know many nurses in hospice who love their jobs. I wouldn’t like any of the jobs you picked either but I like nursing in general.

I graduated last year too as an RN. Frankly changing jobs this much is not the best thing to do. You are limited in options as a LPN for jobs. My advice is you need to stay with a job while you finish your RN. LTCs are brutal and not the best environments but they get you the experience. Change your outlook and look at it as a stepping stone job and stay at the next job while you complete RN.
I personally am not a huge fan of the unit I am on. I have found changing my outlook and being more of a team player has made it more of a positive environment for me. I definitely plan on transferring after a year within the hospital system but for now I am making the best of the experience.

I thought about it, but management has changed and the only open shift is over night.
I just feel bad because I took this substance abuse Job and it’s nice I have my own office and physically it’s easy. I’m not motivated, it’s like at the other job I figured substance abuse wasn’t my niche but because things were going south at my previous job I took this one in a hurry. Which I now regret.

Yes I know and feel terrible changing jobs as I did. But in all I only took two full time position jobs, one I was with 1 year and this one - it’s been since March. Just trying to find what works for me. I’ve been doing what you mentioned about changing my outlook. But I have no motivation. I feel nursing is just not for me. When i was a Cna I enjoyed homecare.
