I called in sick within my 90 day probation period

Published

I feel so bad. I came down with a horrible stomach bug, violently vomiting and had diarrhea. I could not possibly work like that. Is it likely that I will be fired or get a bad review in my 90 day review for this? Is it necessary to go to the doc and get a doctors note?

If you're sick, you're sick. It happens.

Hope you feel better soon!

You should be ok! You might want to get a doctor's note depending on your floor/hospital but I know my jobs have never required one. I'm sure they management team would much rather you stay at home and get better than risk infecting patients/staff and making the wrong decision because you're not 100%.

I was hospitalized during my 90 probationary period and June will be 2 years. I wasn't given a bad review (manager did ask if I was okay). It wasn't an issue for me. What is your facilities absence policy? that should be what makes the difference. We have a very generous absence policy, so one absence didn't make a difference.

I'd go to employee health if that is available to you. They're free and can excuse you from work.

I'm sure you're fine. There's no hard and fast rule that you'll be terminated for this...it just means this could be used against you if termination is desired in the first 90 days, and it may not be an excused absence (or a paid one).
