Hello to all, I would like to thank everyone for answering the questions that I post on the B.B. Your answers are helping me make some very important decisions. I wanted to ask how often do you attend clinicals? Do you have enough time to work at least 36 hours per week? Also, are their any nursing students applying to any of the nursing programs in schools in the cities of Houston, Texas or around the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area? If so what schools were you considering applying to? Thank you again for all of your answers. Have a nice day!!!:)

I start my 2nd year in August. We have classes from 9-12 on Mondays and Wednesdays, and clinicals from 8am-2pm on Thursdays and Fridays. You might be able to work part time. I don't. I need to spend all my time on the careplans, med sheets, etc. Good Luck to you.

I think it depends on whether you apply to a BSN program or an ADN program, as to your clinical schedule. I'm pretty sure that the ADN students spend more time in clincal their first semester, than the BSN students. I think you could work 36 hours a week, but I think that it would be tough.
When are you planning on working? Are you planning on working mostly on the weekends?
I think you should check with the schools that you are planning on applying to and ask them what a typical clinical schedule is like.
Good luck to you.

I couldn't have done it, but then again, there are girls in my program that have worked full time jobs all the way through!
Just be sure you have enough time for your studies!

Hi Sonia
I am hoping to transfer to a nursing program in Dallas. I have a friend who is starting her second year at Texas Women's University. I just spoke with her today as a matter of fact. She said that they start clinicals in the first semester but it is mostly observation. A lot of paperwork though. She is also working approx. 25 hours a week with school. I believe the same would be true of UT Arlington. The assistant dean at Baylor mentioned that they begin clinicals in the first semester but not heavy.
Hope this helps. Are you going to be entering a north Texas nursing school? I'm trying to hook up with some other Texas nursing students.
Hey Debbie5---
I'm also in Dallas.:)
I'll be starting UT Arlington's program this fall. We start clinicals pretty quickly after the program begins. But, your right, I think that it is mostly just observation. I also have friends in both Baylor's program and TWU's program.
PM me if you want to chat.

I just graduated in may and i worked 36hrs+ a week during lpn school. I quit the week before graduation... We had clinicals 3 days a week(24hrs) and class 2 days a week(12hrs). I guess I lucked out at the hospital I worked at because they really worked around my school schedule.
Debbie,
glad to be of help:chuckle
